Thanks for rebuilding our hot tub. I wish this would allow me to post the before and after photos. I never thought the hot tub could be fixed, let alone in a day.

Thank you for the excellent service! They took excellent care of our tub. The circuit board was fried from another company installing the wrong size breaker and wire. They recommended a good electrician who was fairly priced. I now feel like I have a good grasp on our tubs chemistry. Thanks for holding my hand and walking me through it so many times. (I have contacted them about 5 times since their service call) The new cover fits very well!

I read the reviews and decided to give them a try. I also paid for a hot tub cover that was never delivered almost a year ago and a cover lifter that was never completely installed. I've called numerous times and received no response. Next step is to write the better business bureau. Not worth pursuing legally but wish I could. They deserve no stars, but I couldn't complete without one.

My ordeal with this company is...

My ordeal with this company is going on 4 months now. I paid for parts and repairs to replace the internal hoses with new ones, and to replace the ionzonator. I also ordered a new cover. The total for all this work: almost $750 was paid in full. My mistake! The work was never done...and what's worse, the hot tub is now in worse shape that it was before this company came out to my house. I looked in the internal compartment this weekend: hoses are disconnected all over the place, and electrical wires have been cut and not spliced back together. It appears to me that this job became too much work for them, and they just abandoned me.



I have made repeated calls and emails, most of which have gone unanswered and unreturned. When I waited for 6 weeks, they answered the phone and promised me all sorts of things: that the cover was never ordered, but would come in 2 weeks, that they would finish their work, but that the hot tub would run properly in the interim (not true, given the state of internal plumbing and wiring they left), and that they would give me a free cover lift as an apology. None of this has happened and now they won't return my calls/emails. According to government records, this business is owned by Amy Nelson and Erlene Rawson. However, I have no way to contact them to escalate this situation so I am posting here.



I've seen some other stories online at the Better Business Bureau (gives a rating of F), on Yellow Pages.com, and on News CHannel 3 Troubleshooters which indiciates my situation might not be unique. I have no way of knowing whether these other situations are true, but my experience has been less than positive.

Thank you for taking care of our very old tub. We thought we were going to have to rip it out of hte deck and go spend another 10k on a Hotsprings. The new controls are easy to operate. We will be using you in the future.

We called them after the company we bought our Sundance Spa from said it would be 3 weeks before they could get to us. This is a 11k spa and that is not kosher. They fixed it the next day after getting the board and we will be calling them first in the future. My wife had back surgery and needed it now!

My hot tub was leaking. I called them this morning and they have already arrived. The main pump was leaking and broken. They replaced it and spent 30 minutes educating us on how to properly take care of the chemicals so this will not happen again. Thanks a lot !

We had hired another company B...

We had hired another company BEFORE HIRING THEM to install our new Tub. The FIRST COMPANY used the wrong wire and it was shown to us really quickly by their techs. IT WAS UNDERSIZED AND COULD HAVE CAUGHT OUR SPA ON FIRE! IT ALSO DID NOT HAVE A SAFETY GFCI WHICH IS REQUIRED BY LAW! That was money well spent and we will use them again.

They just left having just installed a new cover and cover lift so I will be able to use my tub again. I have used them three times. They did not charge us an install fee for the lift saing we qualified for the frequent flyer program which was apparantly made up on the spot. The cover and cover lift came to 447. We are pleased.

On December 7th 2011, I paid Gordon Smith with Above The Rest $250.00 to repair my spa. Two months later I have not seen him or my money. He hides behind voice mail and will not return my phone calls. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, WRAL TV Troubleshooter. Now going to the sheriffs office to file legal action. From other post I've read, he has done this in other markets also. In Wilmington NC he was the subject to a TV troubleshooter profile when he allegedly operated under the name Dr Spa. BEWARE

After being told we would have...

After being told we would have to wait 2 months by the company we normally used I gave them a try. They were a few minutes late, but the traffic can be bad here in Wake Forest at times. Our pump was not starting and in a couple of minutes he showed us it was locked up. I did not take care of the chemicals in the past but will from now on. I will use them again.

I just bought a used hot tub for my old bones only to find out the company that made it is out of business and the pump and heater didn't work. It took a few days before they could come out but they figured out that my main pump was frozen and the heater was fried. They had both items and returned the same day. The pump I shooped around at Rising Sun and was quoted $549. I got it for $425. The heater though was $180 and the others guys said $160. It took them 2 hours to remove and replace and tell me what chemicals can be used. I never knew it was so complicated. I will use them again and my neighbor now is.

We called Above the Rest even after reading these reviews. They came out and repaired our Leisure Bay hot tub we purchased from the now defunct Rec Warehouse. We had a pump lock up and it took him about an hour to replace with a new one. I did search the internet and was pleased with the price. Unfortunately, a week later our heater then went out. He quickly determined it was from the salt system we were using like we have in our swimming pool. What was really nice was that he showed me how to repair it myself when it happens again.

Above the Rest should rename itself Below the Rest. When it comes to service, this guy is a fraud. I've seen the same reviews posted all over the Internet regarding Gordon Smith. He comes out, spins a good tale, takes your money and never returns. Furthermore, he refuses to answer his phone when trying to simply follow up on over $850 worth of purchases. Is that too much to ask, Gordon?



He was a scam artist in Wilmington 2 years ago (Google Dr. Hot Tub to learn more) and he's now trying to get away with it again in Raleigh.



Beware dealing with this man...he'll prey on you with sob stories regarding health issues, pets, surgeries, etc., but then run away when he's called upon to perform. I'm not the first person this has happened to obviously. I expect to see a response here from Gordon that will no doubt sound great. Don't believe it...

Dear Kevin Craig, 1st. Gordon is an employee. I, Amy Nelson and Erlene Rawson own this company. We are happy to have Gordon as our lead tech. 2nd As you know, we sent your money back to you on the 22nd of August. (1 day after your check cleared) 4 days before you posted this review. You cashed the check 7 days later on the 29th. We refunded your money without you even asking, so where is the scam? There's no fraud, nor lies except several by you that our business has "taken" your money. We were greatly offended by your email to us accusing us of taking your money and not ordering a cover, filter or ozonator. Hence we sent your money back. Unfortunately for you there is a paper trail proving your accusations wrong. We fired you and refunded you not the other way around. Also as you now know we have had to take legal action against you since you continue to distort facts and have made numerous posts that we will prove in court that are not true. It's been a very bad month with family deaths, injuries and surgeries and we have refunded 5 different customers. 2 of which have posted bad reviews after getting their money back. As a small business it's never good to not be able to full fill everyone's wishes and have to fire some of it's customers that believe they are the only customer and come first before everyone else. Lastly I would like to tell you, none of these posts are damaging our business. We still get more calls then we can service each day. The best part our attorney keeps telling us that it elevates the potential settlement.

What happened to this guy when he got married?

So, we had exemplary service from this guy over the years. Then he goes and supposedly gets married, does not even let us know he is on a honeymoon. He was a black hole for 3 weeks! When he returns. he does not show up at the time he said he would. Hell, he never showed up at all. He is finally sending a new cover that is late, but why do we need one, when the hot tub does not work! He refuses to call back, I don't know if he is feeling guilty or knows he messed up on the last visit or what. The lack of communication is unacceptable. Quit giving him stars, he lost it!

Mr. Hissam : 1st. We have only been to your girlfriends hot tub once on Feb. 9th. As we have previous stated we left the tub running and have video proving that it was left running. You have not been our customer for many years. That is a lie and one of the reasons we refuse to do anymore work on your hot tub. Our tech found nails in your hot tubs plumbing and replaced on switch because of nails. Since then you had an electrician work on the tub and we will not be responsible for a circuit board if that is what is needed because he did not properly handle the board by discharging his static electricity. 2nd I did get married and had a nice wonderful long honeymoon. Who are you to tell me how long I can take off. Also unlike you, I do not lie. 3rd Your hot tub's cover was ordered even before it was paid for and it was made by Prestige spa covers in a week and then Estes Trucking company picked it up and unfortunately took 2 weeks to get it to you. That is not our fault and Estes I know called you and apologized profusely. We had no control whatsoever in the extra 2 weeks it took for you to get your cover. 4th I have the emails and the very rude phone calls and now this review with yet a few more and a few lies. We do not want to talk to you nor communicate with you. I know it's sad for you being a customer that actually gets dropped by a business instead of the other way around. Lucky for us we have the legal system which we are about to utilize against you to clear up this slander.
