facility and staff fantastic, billing a nightmare

My child had an operation on December 31st with a very professional staff in a nice new facility. Everything was great. Then the problems with billing began. This hospital "forgets" to discount your co-pay for the insurer discount. You know, the amount this bill is reduced by thanks to the negotiated insurer discount. So I paid about $350 at the time of my visit. Then my insurance company sent me a form explaining that the hospital had agreed to a payment of $1700, which for me meant a bill of now $170.



To get my refund has been a real problem. The hospital doesn't want to send the check until the insurance company pays. Then the checks are mailed from a corporate office. Then the corporate office mails them to Plano. Now Plano is supposed to mail me the check. It's March and I'm still waiting.



Be careful, determine your co-pay before you go.
