Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf provides educational services to deaf and hard of hearing students, and is located in Pittsburgh. It was founded in 1869 and also operates upper and lower schools. Its lower school offer classes from grades one through six and prepares students for the academic content base and learning skills. Its after school activities include sports, clubs, leadership and decision making skills and instills in them a healthy self-concept. Its preschool offers classes for 2-to 6-years-old children. The school has been providing early intervention services to deaf and hard of hearing infants, toddlers and families in western Pennsylvania for more than 25 years. It additionally provides computerized catalog to the students to learn to locate books, captioned films and CD-ROMs.
