The Philadelphia Police Department is one of the five largest metropolitan police agencies in the United States and provides law enforcement services. It has more than 6,600 officers, over 405 patrol cars, nearly 115 emergency wagons and several auxiliary vehicles for police use. The department offers the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which provides classroom instruction to children about the dangers involved in using drugs. It also offers the Gang Resistance Education and Training, Operation Safe Streets, Cops Ahead and Citizen's Police Academy programs. The Philadelphia Police Department utilizes detectives and specially trained police officers to investigate and solve crimes, arrest violators and assist in the preparation of cases for prosecution. Its Ride-Along program allows citizens to view the operation of the police department while riding with an on-duty officer. The police department is located in Philadelphia.
