Valley Nursery started back in the early 1970's as a hobby farm by the McCollum family. The house and barn on the site were built before the 1920's, and while not looking the same as they did back then, they are still an integral part of today's Valley Nursery. The old red barn was converted into the Garden Shop and the house now is office space as well as housing classes and staff meetings. The present owner, Brad Watts, purchased the business in 1986. Back then the nursery was well on it's way to becoming the well respected retail nursery that it is today. Lots of changes have come over the years with one of the first being the carving of the huge troll 'Valnur' out of a cedar stump. He stands over 8 feet tall and holds an oversized water can as he tends the garden at the entrance to the nursery. This carving took about 3 weeks to accomplish and was a real attention-getter back then. Too many other changes have taken place over the years to list here but one of the most recent is the remodeling of the koi and duck pond on site. It now features a waterfall made with huge granite boulders and beautiful plantings around it. Surely this will not be the last of the changes!
