In February 2007, I had a roof replaced by Ideal. The roofing job itself was satisfactory and I was pleased. However, I used them again for a siding replacement job on a chimney a few months later. The subcontractor they used did a poor job, mislaigning siding, mismeasuring and never painting the siding and framework. I later learned that the siding, HardiPlank, needed to be painted within six months for it to endure. My military duties prevented me from doing anything about the issue until significantly later.



In March of 2009, we had a hailstorm that did significant damage to several homes. My home was evaluated and found not to have suffered major damage from the storm, but did have issues with defective shingles. I contacted Ideal, and their owner, Michael Monk, came out to evaluate the roof and the chimney. He agreed there were problems. He promised to contact Owens-Corning about the roofing issue and to make the job right on the substandard chimney repair. Over the next four months, in spite of bi-weekly calls to his company, nothing was done. The owner was always either in a meeting or on the road, and never returned calls. Additionally, I contacted Owens-Corning directly about the issue and learned he had never advised them of an issue with the roofing shingles, something necessary in order to file a claim. In late May, I spoke with Mr. Monk directly and he advised he would be out the following week with an inspector from Owens-Corning. To date, he still has done nothing and does not return calls. At this point, my recourse is either to take him to court, a major impact on my time, or embarrass him as much as possible through the media. I will probably have to do both in order to obtain satisfaction.



It's a true shame that honor and integrity take second place to profit, and that a man's word is no long a bond. I would not recommend Ideal Exteriors to anyone who expects any type of follow-on customer service.
