This is the newest location of what I call the Lucky Baldwin's family of pubs. Though they've been open for at least a month or two, the "Lucky Baldwins Trappiste Cafe" (as it is formally known) just had it's official grand opening on Mother's Day weekend. The pub is located where the old "Brits" establishment used to be, but it is much, much nicer, and features a dog-friendly covered patio for Al Fresco dining.

The beer menu is extensive, heavily Belgian, but always includes some great domestic craft brews on tap from Stone, Sierra Nevada and a host of others, and some hard to find imported brews including my favorite from Germany, Aventinus. There's also a pretty regular calendar of beer fests that focus on different beer styles, with something for nearly everyone to enjoy.

The food is also pretty good, and of course includes Lucky Baldwin's famous Fish & Chips, served with ale battered Icelandic Cod fillets, English chips (a.k.a. steak fries) and green peas if you please, available in a full or half-order. They also serve up a pretty mean French Dip sandwich, and my post-marathon training favorite, the Rib Eye Steak Sandwich, served with caramelized onions on a toasted garlic French roll, with a side of tangy horseradish, chips and tomato wedges.

As much as it hurts to do so, I couldn't give five stars for two reasons: inconsistent food quality from the kitchen, and a few funky batches of beer that caused a few in my party on one particular visit more than mild gastric "discomfort." I am forgiving though, and know that these things are not uncommon to a new establishment. Still, as this location is pretty much within walking distance to my home, I'm happy to have Lucky Baldwin's in my neighborhood.

Welcome to East Pasadena, Lucky B's!
