I took my wife’s Asus laptop and power adapter into PTTC. They charge $50 to diagnose the problem cause. That $50 goes towards the price of additional work if authorized.

The problem: laptop would not stay booted up for very long. Sometimes it was fine for 30-60 seconds; sometimes 10 seconds; but this short time offered no time to diagnose the problem. Maybe internal battery and/or the charging system.

Their reply: No problem with charging system. It booted up and stay booted up just fine (my comment: then they used their own adapter and not mine). They said my real problem was that I had a significant problem with viruses. Recommended a $200 wipe-all-clean fix. I declined since the charging, per PTTC, was fine.

Once home, same symptoms. Checked my power adaptor using my voltmeter: it was not working. Ordered new one; all working fine for last 2 weeks.

Told PTTC that they had misdiagnosed my problem and I wanted my $50 returned. I showed them the power adapter, which they tested and confirmed it was faulty. They refused a refund and said the charging system was working fine. Bull. I am convinced they used their own power adapter. I told them I will contest this with AmEx (which I am doing). They said their phone recordings showed I accepted their diagnosis and would use that against me (bull; I did not accept their diagnosis; and it is illegal to record my conversation in Fla without my permission; my permission was never given).

I would stay clear of these guys. I do not like this “bait and switch” from the charging system to the virus “problem” (for the record, I have had McAfee installed at least 6 months previous to this charging problem and McAfee, then and now, says I am virus free). They are not consumer friendly. I do not trust them. And I am just disappointed in them. As I already noted, my previous experience with them was good. But I now recommend you stay clear. -rz

My system's power supply was not working. Another company advised replacement of power supply. The guys at the Palm Tree Tech Center did some prompt troubleshooting and reduced the quote to a simple replacement of a cable which solved the issue.
