The Public Safety department, governed by the City of Orem in Utah, is comprised of fire and police departments. Its fire department operates several fire stations that provide fire protection, rescue and first response services for medical emergencies. The Police Department operates administrative, animal control, investigation, traffic enforcement and victim assistance divisions. It also maintains a canine unit that specializes in detecting the presence of drugs during traffic stops and search warrants. The department s neighborhood preservation unit enforces city code and nuisance ordinance violations for health issues, unlicensed businesses, illegal accessory apartments, abandoned vehicles, and drug and party houses. The Police Department has a patrol division that handles more than 60,000 calls for service each year.
