NEON Headstart is the early childhood development division of the Norwalk, Conn.-based Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now, a private nonprofit organization and community action agency serving the greater Norwalk area. The communities include New Canaan, Westport, Greenwich, Weston, Wilton and Darien, Conn. Its mission is to reduce the conditions of poverty and to help low-income families and residents become self-sufficient through the delivery of direct programs, services and advocacy at the state, federal and community level. The systemic change that the program is trying to achieve is to provide residents and families with the necessary tools and resources to become self sufficient and gainfully employed. It provides a variety of programs and services including childcare, family support, alternative incarceration, energy assistance and after school programs.
