OUCH!! They were one of the costliest; I thot getting a York furnace would be a good move to get higher efficiency. The installer worked alone continuously all day; his colleague was ill. He was to return to remove the old furnace and water heater. Inspecting the work the next day, I saw large gaps( 1/i to 1/4 inch) in the new cold air returns. Heat was pouring out one of the upper ducts so rapidly it blew dust and spider webs around. Used a ladder and peered at top of the duct (which was close to basement ceiling, ergo heating kitchen floor and basement!!!). Gaps were 1/2 to 1 inch!! Holy crapwork! I have vents that allow the OPTION of heating the unfinished storage basement, not a roaring flow across two feet of ductwork. At their return I pointed out these gaps PLUS the silly "can" that had been inserted into the chimney to "cover" the old water heater exhaust. It was removable, could have fallen into the chimney. The workers promptly poured tubes of silicone seal into EVERYTHING! It is my firm belief that quality work demanded that these ducts be reformed. I should have gone with the bid that was $1100 cheaper; at least I would have gotten what I paid for. Silicone seal is cheap.
