I wish I could give this ZERO star rating. I recently got married and we switched banks from USAA to TEGFCU, Newburgh Branch. USAA is an amazing bank but, they are over 50 mins from my house and ATM fee's, and easy of access are hard. A friend recommended TEGFCU. I go in to the Newburgh Branch, open a checking account, a week later tell my job to change deposit accounts, today I take my wife in to add her to the account.

My wife and I met while she was visiting the US, and we are in the process of getting her immigration status change to permanent resident. We went in with proof of address (Utility Bills, Her Passport, Her Visa, And letter from immigration saying she is applied for status change, we offered our marriage license) The asked her for a social security number, we explained that she could not obtain one until after we had the interview and her status change from visitor to permanent resident, and that our attorney advised it could be 3-6months.

The teller get the manager Ashley. Ashley invites us into his office. Explain to him what I needed and my actions and offered up any documentation he may require.

He asked if I had overdraft. I told him no, but if I did I don't want it. He smiled and said "ok not a problem because we don't lend to people like that." He informs us that as of 1/1 TEGFCU is no longer allowing account with "those people," meaning people without social's. I inform him that a friend that goes to MSMC referred us and ask if they will be closing al accounts. He reiterates what he sad. I get home and my wife is in tears over his comments.

I work for a living. I am not on anytime of social program and I support myself and my wife 100%. We don't have 1 million dollars in the bank, but like most I work and provide for my family.

If you are on a student visa, or applying to adjust your status don't use this bank. I call Hudson Heritage, Hudson Valley, Bank of America, TD Bank all wanted my business with no issues in adding my wife to the account.
