Founded in 1969, the Dance Theatre of Harlem is a community school that offers a variety of educational programs in allied arts, music, dance, costuming and theater. The school serves more than 500 students between the ages of 3 and 24. It operates Classically American, which is a dance company and education center. The school also conducts classes in classical ballet, jazz, gymnastics, karate, Tai-chi and Irish step dancing.
