I went to Longley's Supply in New Bern, NC to pick up a few items for my plumber for a bathroom remodel. I wanted to get my stuff from Lowes, but my plumber assured me that the quality of the items are better at Longleys. This may be true, but the discomfort of my shopping experience was more powerful than the quality of their inventory. It was in the high 80s and the muggy feeling of this establishment made me question how they can sell air conditioning when theirs doesn't work. I asked the male associate (who was very friendly) why in the world it was so hot? I asked if the air was broken and they said "no, I guess they are trying to cut expenses".Unfortunately, the way this business is set up requires a sales rep to discuss what you need at a (rather filthy) counter area and then they run to the back to grab it for you. This process was taking entirely too long in the sweltering heat. I was wearing a suit...it was truly intolerable. I walked out and told my plumber that he can either install the things I purchased from lowes or I'll find someone else to do the job. I could not shop in the conditions Longley's has provided for thier customers. If you want my business you're going to need to provide AC. Comfortable customers make purchases, uncomfortable customers go to the establishment down the road and make purchases. The opportunity cost of "cutting expenses" in the air conditioning department cost them about 6k in stuff that I purchased at Lowes instead.
