horrible food, terrible service

They claim the clam chowder is home made. Opening a can of Campbell's and adding bacon doesn't make it home made. It was obviously canned. The burger was burned, dry and flavorless. The shrimp were rubbery. The price was ridiculous. The service was horrible. Save your money. Run. Run as far away from this tourist trap as you can. It gives food, New Bern and dining a bad name.

Family Night Out

My family ate there 2 nights Okay... The muscles were beyond amazing... My husband said the fish and chips was awesome also. Our son got spaghetti and it was okay. The service was great. We sat on the roof... Which was a nice option. I would say that I think some renovations might be in order... Seems like the place is a little run down.

Seven of us ate there last night. When I firsted moved here in 1994 this was a great place to eat. Then the owner put in a new kitchen, and the place has decreased the quality of its food. That must have been one exspensive kitchen. They had a strip that was advertised the best in New Bern, and it was. Not any more. There crab cakes were the best ever. Not any more, When you ordered tuna they gave you a large portion. Not any more.So in order to add a new kitchen, hes ordering lower quality food What a dam shame. The only thing keeping him alive is the locals who dont know good food and the tourist. Another what was a good spot to eat, DOWN THE DRAIN.

Interesting place with a lot o...

Interesting place with a lot of character. Neat three-story building with seating on every floor plus the roof. Food is fresh and well-prepared. The seafood was perfectly cooked and the drinks were great (no wimpy, watered down drinks here!) The prices were very good for a tourist-y area: $60 for a "shrimp burger" (lightly battered popcorn shrimp, tomato and lettuce on a bun) with fries, blackened salmon, garlic mashed, salad, and corn muffins (the BEST I've ever eaten), a mug of clam chowder, two beers, and two mixed drink. And that INCLUDED a 20% tip! If you're in New Bern, make reservations for roof seating (the view isn't great, but the warm breeze on a clear night is nice) and enjoy dinner at Captain Ratty's.

Terrible! Do not waste your time or money!

I hadn't been to Captain Ratty's in about a year (since Persimmon's and Ribeye's opened I had been frequenting them instead). The word around town was that Ratty's had gone downhill fast. My wife and I decided to see for ourselves. When we arrived we were seated downstairs by the hostess. My wife was thirsty, but we had to wait for 5 minutes before our waitress acknowledged us, although she walked my our table several times. When she finally did take our drink order (two sweet teas), we waited another 3 minutes for her to get them. We then ordered our dinner: the crabcake and grilled shrimp, and a Medium well filet. We literally had to wait 45 minutes for our food; our waitress explained our order was behind a party that was upstairs. So what? Why should we wait because the kitchen is understaffed? When it arrived my steak was cooked medium rare, my wife's french fries were cold, and the mixed vegetables looked as if they had been sitting all day. I will never go back.

great restaurant in the heart of downtown New Bern

Love this place in the summertime!!! Food is great, location is great and the service awesome! Haven't been yet this summer, but I think they still have roof top dining...great in the evening.

Absolute, no holds bar, BEST filet mignon in town. Haven't had much else, but if you can cook a good steak, the possibilities are endless.

My wife and I come here often. The service is good, the cornbread is awesome (like none you have ever tasted.....not dry moist and delicious). They occasionally change their menu to add new items, but keep most of the basics on the menu. They have the best steaks in town (I think the steaks are better than Outback). Great food. Definitely worth it.
