Today I went to the Sears automotive center next to Memorial City Mall for my first time and I was very excited. I work across the street in a large business building. I was very excited because I knew I would be able to drop my car off and walk to work. The convenience would prove to be invaluable for all my future car needs. I never would believe how badly I would be disappointed.

I arrive in my Jeep and park it in the garage where I was told by one of the mechanics I could go inside and set up my oil change. I was happy to see that they understood that standing in 105 degree weather in Houston would be the last thing I would want to do when I’m dressed professionally and obviously heading back to work. There was only one car in the garage at the time so I knew it would not be a problem to just drive up and ask for a quick change. When I went inside I was greeted by someone who promptly asked how they could help. I informed them that I needed to get an oil change in my Black Jeep Patriot that was in the garage. The service tech proceeded to grab a clip board and walk away. I did not know if I should follow him or stay put. I decided to follow him just so he would know which car was mine. Then I began waiting. I was never told to go inside and I felt rude doing so in case it would just take a few minutes. Then the service tech, Charlie, saw that one of my tires were low and asked if I wanted it fixed. Knowing already that the oil change comes with air service to the tires I said “sure, fill her up with air.” Then the attitude started. Back and forth…

What if it has a nail?

Does it have a nail?

I don’t know.

Well why don’t you fill it up and tell me if it does?

Don’t you want to get it fixed?

I do, but it just may need air.

Well I could put air in it and it may do nothing if it has a nail in it.

I know but I’m sure you can show me if it has a nail.

Now I know this does not seem like anything but you can ask anyone who has dealt with a pompous mechanic that talks down to you. The conversation ended with him stating, “You know what, just forget about it.” He proceeded to walk away back inside without saying another word. I’m left there standing wondering if he thinks I’m a Labrador that should just follow him wherever he goes even though the extent of me being there was so he can show some attitude and treat me like he was doing me a favor by servicing my car. When I walked inside I told Charlie the same thing he told me, “You know what, just forget about it.” Regardless to say, I will not be returning to this place no matter how convenient. And furthermore, I will be telling anyone and everyone how rude the center can be and how horrible my experience was in order to make sure that this kind of service does not go unpunished… all thank to Charlie.
