In 1979, Jim and Peggy Siligato started Narragansett Pest Control as a family business. Jim, having a background in construction, building maintenance, and landscaping, and Peggy with a college background, teaching degree, and advanced specialization in plant sciences and entomology, all combined to provide the best pest preventive expertise, It was a perfect match to start a business that would strive to provide the best service in Rhode Island. Our initial goal was to provide honest, dependable services using the safest methods that would provide long-term control of pests. By 1983, we were full time in business with employees providing services in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. In 1984, the Surfing Rat was born. This was a logo created by artist Brother Michael Dundin of Narragansett, and later became a five foot rat character, a proud and friendly mascot, that can be spotted anywhere in the state.
