Letter to Dierbergs:

I would like to bring to your attention the deplorable service my co-worker and I received yesterday from Cindy Cole the deli manager of Brentwood Pt. store. On June 19, 2012 my co-worker and I decided to get lunch from the store and decided to try the hot salmon from the deli. We were asked to wait 15 minutes and had no problem waiting for the fish to be done. However, after having waited 30 minutes and still no word on when we'd get our meal, Cindy insisted it would be another 5 mins. We waited another 10 minutes and then realized we'd probably blow through our 1 hour lunch break waiting in vain, so we decided to order other items from the deli. My co-worker ordered breaded chicken and I ordered a turkey club. My coworkers order was done promptly, but my order took longer due to a couple of reasons. 1. It had to be grilled and 2. as it was going through the grill it appeared to get jammed in the grill and I could see there was smoke coming out of the grill. Cindy reassured me that it was just the top bun that got burnt, and hurriedly stole a bun from another sandwich quickly wrapping it up for me without as much as an apology for the delay. We had waited almost an hour for service at this point and decided to make it a point to let the store director know about the shoddy service we received from Cindy. We asked around and were told the director was off, but could speak with the assistant store manager. The assistant manager listened to us although indifferently and offered to buy us lunch after we had made known our grievance. We thanked him for the offer and insisted that we buy our own lunch since ours was just a request for him to straighten things out in the deli so they could offer better service. Because the assistant manager was more insistent than we were on paying for our lunch, we reluctantly succumbed to his bidding and off we went to "enjoy our lunch which took a life-time to prepare".

When we got back to the office, my coworker noticed his chicken tasted funny and was too rubbery and hard to chew - it ended up in the trash save for the 2 side dishes he had ordered with his meal. He was not a happy camper and I felt sorry for the guy. Then came my turn, I got on my IPad and was ready to enjoy my sandwich while catching up on current events as I always do while having lunch. To my dismay, I realized that not only did the sandwich have an overwhelmingly burnt smell, but the bottom bun and some of the turkey were charred black. I was so disgusted that I decided to drive back to the store with the sandwich and confront the assistant manager once again on poor service from the deli. Surprisingly, even after having asked him whether he himself would serve the same sandwich to any customer, he appeared nonchalant about the whole situation and this really irritated me. So I told him I would not only make it my goal to let corporate know about the horrible service we received from the this specific store, but would also publish this out to the web so that everyone may know what to expect.

Long story short, after 2 hours of sheer frustration, I went next door to Subway and ordered their bravocodo sandwich. Best part is it took about 2 minutes to make and was absolutely delicious...probably healthier too and way cheaper than the average $10 you could spend at Dierbergs on lunch.

Bottom line, service from the deli at this store is sloppy and the most of the workers are rude. The workers (mostly older ladies...no pun intended) appear to be very unfriendly and seldom appear happy. Most times I've been there, they don't even smile and almost give the impression they are doing one a favor when offering service. I have admit I have always received great service from Krishna the sushi chef and Monica (one of the younger ladies working at the deli...her service with a smile more than makes up for bad food on any day). Bye bye Dierbergs, hello Subway.
