Newport Hand Center is a specialized rehabilitation center providing comprehensive and individualized treatment for those with upper extremity injuries. Through a team approach, we focus on optimizing a patient's return to daily purposeful activity. Our primary goal is to enable our patients to regain lost function, mobility, confidence and independence. The professional team includes Certified Hand Therapists, Licensed and Registered Occupational Therapists, Certified Occupational Therapy, Assistants and Specially Trained Occupational Therapy Aides. What is a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)? The CHT designation is granted to an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist who has met the standards set by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC). These standards include a minimum of five years of clinical experience, including 2,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. In addition, the CHT must successfully pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper extremity rehabilitation.
