Carruthers Elementary School, founded in 1958, provides classes from grades kindergarten through five, and enrolls more than 400 students. The school operates under the Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186, and its curriculum includes accelerated reading program, English, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, and performing and visual arts.
