Very little could have gone worse with our experience with ASONS's Property Preservation dept. My wife and I won the bid on a very nice home (currently appraised at $241,000) that had been winterized. ASONS is the property management company in charge of dewinterizing the home, in order for us to conduct a professional in depth inspection. ASONS had turned the water on the night before our inspection, yet left the home with a leak in the main floor laundry room, which leaked through the main floor wall and into the ceiling and floor of a basement bedroom. Our inspector turned the water off himself approx 18 hours after ASONS had 'dewinterized' the home. The ceiling is now sagging and extremely discolored, the floor has been fully saturated, and that is all we can see at this time. There could very well be more damage in the walls and above the ceiling/in the floor of the main level. ASONS was notified on April 18th of the leak and the new damage, they informed us they would have someone out their that day to clean up the water. They inform us later that day that they can't get someone out there until the next day. The next day comes and they then inform us that they can't have someone out there to clean up the water until the 20th. 2 days from the initial notice of the new water leak and water damage, they finally have someone out there to shop vac the water (that is all though, no dehumidifiers, no fans). They also repair the shut off valve. The water sat in this house untouched for 3 days. The Asset Managing company has been wonderful trying to help get this resolved with ASONS, yet ASONS will not return our agents call or any communication from the Asset Managers who issue their work orders.... The Asset Manager Specialist has her Supervisor involved and they both were told by ASONS that ASONS was working on this, yet now they are not taking calls from our agent as of 5 days ago. The Asset Management company has appologize to us for how poorly this has been going and that this is even happening. They sent ASONS a work order request to at least remove all material that was damaged by this water leak, yet they are not responding to the Asset Management company, so they issued, yet another work order to ASONS to clean up the water damaged materials. As of today, ASONS has issued the statement "As for the ceiling, it is not damaged from the drip/leak in the laundry room it has been discolored for sometime". So, after going in to fix the leak and vacuum up the water, they are now denying that this water leak caused the damage. This is very saddening to hear as we might not be able to go through with this home purchase because of the new damage that occurred after we had bid and won the home. Water was present to clean up after the dewinterization, and ASONS eventually worked to stop the leak and vacuum up water, yet now they deny this water leak causing the damage. It is very unfortunate this is happening. I did enjoy working with the inital rep from ASONS as I worked out the time for the dewint. As stated by her, "They will be de-winterizing the property(basically just turning the water on and making sure there are no leaks). They will also fire up the water heater as well." I would recommend that if you have no choice but to use ASONS, make sure you are there when they are to make sure this doesn't happen to you. My wife and I now look to be out of a wonderful home we had been so excited about, not to mention the $180 we paid to ASONS for them to dewinterize. Mistakes happen, yet the level of service has been nothing short of shocking.
