Never answer their phones. They lie about the animals. They overcharge. They treat people badly and make them feel pressured to adopt. I succumbed to it and unknowingly took home an animal that had so many issues. The vet told me the condition as extremely contagious. Pretty sure their vets could have told them this too. Yet, they kept the animal in a room with other animals without cages. So now every family that adopts from that room, will likely also have the same issues with their animal.

They are greedy, unorganized, dirty people. Hey Danielle, why do you dye your hair again since that’s so much more important than running your business!!

I adopted my 3 month old puppy (she was then around 2 months) from Unleashed a little over a month ago. The service was great and very helpful. However.. about a week and a half later her stitches from being fixed came open and she also developed a cough. Long story short, we spend hundreds of dollars trying to make her better as she declined over the next month. During this time our vet found giardia and coccidia, tried to treat her for that, but with no luck. Today we had to put our sweet puppy to sleep. Our vet thinks that she had distemper which she would have gotten from the pet rescue. They said it could have been because their vet didn’t store their vaccines properly to prevent distemper. This has been the most heartbreaking experience. While it may have not been intentional, please be cautious when adopting a pet from here. I’m sure this is isn’t a common experience to go through what I did, and maybe she’s the only one who actually got the sickness, but thought someone out there might find this helpful.

I’m never one to write reviews on people even if it’s a good or bad experience but my little bit of time talking to these people was so horrible I couldn’t just not say anything. I emailed them asking about two kittens (we are looking at getting two) and asked if they would take less than $200 a piece. They wrote me back and said no. They don’t do any sort of discounts on their animals but asked which two I was interested in. I sent them pictures back and explained I couldn’t spend that much on each one as we have a special needs son and with all of his tubes and wire we would have to declaw their front nails to make sure nothing gets punctured otherwise we wouldn’t do it. Well they rudely wrote back. “Well this works out Perfect then because we don’t adopt pur cats to people that declaw them anyways”. I was just thinking wow so rude. There was so many better ways to say that. Glad I will not be using them to adopt our new family members.

We adopted a 9-month-old shepherd/schnauzer mix last October based on a listing through Petfinder. The description was accurate. Photo posted was also accurate. Reply to email message and phone calls were returned within 48 hours. The dog was a rescue from a kill facility in Oklahoma. Staff was up front with us. We were able to pay $150 (as that is the cost at SPCA) adoption fee. Spent time getting to know the dog in a small waiting room with toys and treat worked out well. We did have to wait awhile to see the dog and complete paperwork, so be prepared to wait. At one point since we adopted her, I thought we would have to surrender her back due to personal circumstances, and the staff was understanding. Fortunately, things worked out and we were able to keep her. Also decided to get a playmate recently and thought a puppy listed would work. After our visit, we determined the new puppy was not the best fit and, again, staff was understanding and non pressure. I had my grandson with us during both visits and had no trouble with any negative comments directed toward my husband, myself or our grandson. We appreciate what Unleashed is trying to do. The facility is under construction to make it better yet still is able to provide a definite service. I will adopt from them again if a dog is listed on Petfinder through Unleashed that we feel will be a good playmate for our now 19 month old adoptee.

It wasn't the best service for sure! It actually made me mad but these people are doing something for these animals , maybe not perfectly but they are doing and if they get paid it's not enough to see the terrible shape some of these animals come in from hoards so yes it stinks and may be unorganised but do you want to run it ? I am grateful for the chance to let me try and help an animal in need and if I could I would try and do more but I don't want to complain and ward off willing adoptive owners away! Give them a break ! I would be so depressed to see that every day so be a bit easier on them for the animals sakes!!

Awful staff.

Do not adopt from here. I have had several problems with this staff. The staff, as a whole, are unorganized, rude, and overwhelmed. The place seriously lacks structure. I have heard bad things about this place before, but decided to try it out anyway. We waited an hour to see the dog we really wanted, we waited so long because they forgot about us. We were eventually approved for adoption. After starting to fill out the adoption paperwork we were then told we couldn't adopt. They were worried about the kids we were with, despite the fact the kids neither live with us, or visit the house. And the dogs profile said he's great with kids. We were never able to speak with the person who made this decision, as they hid in the back. We were able to talk to a couple a very rude and confrontational employees, however.

I would recommend, literally, anywhere else to adopt your pet.

Can you say DISCRIMINATION!!!!
HORRIBLE STAFF!!!! Extremely Judgmental as my daughter and daughter in law found out! We have had animals for years and have ALWAYS treated are pets as FAMILY!!! But because my girls said they weren't sure if they can afford the $130 adoption fee, suddenly they became people that wouldn't be able to provide the proper care for the puppy!!! Horrible staff running this place! When I called and spoke with one of the staff, she stated that our girls "Didn't Look Right " and stated it was they're descion to not allow them to adopt, even though my girls drove an hour and half, and spent over 3 hours loving on these dogs that just need a good home, which we have provided for many years!!! Just to be told "NO"... And oh BTW, they had the money and were prepared to pay!!!!! Please Look Somewhere Else, unless you want too leave W/O an animal and crying your eyes out!!!!

I had been looking for a dog for a while before I found unleashed and my current dog. It felt more friendly and offbeat than most shelters. I really liked it. They have a different process, you apply when you enter, its short. One page. No nonsense. They take care of the paperwork first. You get a private room and a friendly counselor comes in and helps u find a good fit. They liken it to wedding dress shopping. It avoids awkward oggling against cage walls, reduces stress for the dogs, and really opens you up. You think about what your really looking for. The dog I was interested in turned out to be like, feral, and we discussed other dogs. My restrictions were: good with kids, a hiking partner, young and trainable. They pulled a couple dogs for me and brought them in, with treats and toys. They really are looking to put dogs in good homes that work and make the process as straightforward as possible. They are very open and non judgemental about adoption and dog ownership. If anything doesn't work out, they made it clear how easy it was to bring the dog back. You sign an adoption contract agreeing to treat the dog as an indoor pet and care for it. As far as the cost goes, I was presented the total of the medical treatments my dog received-- $375-- and asked for a donation. I paid $250 for my dog, which seemed a fair price to me. I wish I could have paid the total but was nervous about the new costs I would incur as a pet owner. I will likely donate again to them in the future. For those interested in puppies, most are in foster and you may need to set up a time to meet outside the shelter. Happy to have skipped housebreaking!! They picked two dogs I probably wouldn't have selected myself and were really spot on. I'm ashamed to say now I may have cruised past my new best friend if someone hadn't pulled him out for me and we have an amazing connection. Thanks unleashed!!

My daughters and I saw an ad on Craigslist and decided to come check it out. Horrible experience. The staff member that approached us had sort of a rude attitude from the start.

She directed us to a room, and then here vomes this huge aggressive dog running fullspeed at us. It jumped on my 9 year old. The staff member became upset because my daughter was scared. After talking with her and asking questions, it was clear to see that she did not want to help us. We all felt uncomfortable so I said thank you but nevermind. She marches out and slammed the door. I can't believe my children had to witness that type of behavior.

My kids & I visited several times before settling upon a kitten. The people were super friendly & helpful. There were a few volunteers simply there to play with the animals, which I thought was sweet. We happened to notice one kitten was ill & the staff scheduled a vet appt promptly. We checked back on the kitten afterwards & she was all better! We were very impressed with Unleashed Pet Rescue & will definitely use them again.

They have no clue about any of their pets. No knowledge what so ever. Adopt your pets from another shelter that can actually give you advice, better medical history, etc. You will be better off.

Absolutely floored by the way this woman with short brown hair had the audacity to treat me. I came in to pet some animals, give them some love (being out of the way of the workers) and she asked me to leave because I'm a "distraction". I'm just amazed that I had such good intentions coning in here wanting to show these animals some love and I was turned away. Completely disrespectful.

Unleashed pet rescue is worse than a puppy mill. When we adopted Echo we were told she had a slight case of kennel cough and she would be just fine after her antibiotics. Now we find out she has a completely collapsed left lung that is absolutely riddled with pneumonia. And some POS quack veterinarian performed the spay on her while she was ridiculously ill. I called them to tell them about her condition and they could have cared less. To anyone in Kansas City use a puppy mill instead of these complete creeps.

Horrible people! Do not ever go there. After trying to surrender a pet (due to unforeseen circumstances), they proceeded to push and shove fingers in my chest and yell and scream about what a horrible person I am. I will NEVER have anything good to say about these nasty caregivers.

This place is the worst or the worst. They gave us a dog to foster before we adopted her. 4 weeks later the dog had puppies. We cared for 8 puppies along with the mom for 8 weeks with very minimal help from them. When it came time to take the pups in for their finals hots and micro chipped they would not release any puppies unless the donation was over $100. There is no where on there website that's says anything of a minimum price. They raised the price three times on is while we were there. They are the rudest nastiness people ever. My son is heart broken because we couldn't afford their $200 donation. We flipped our house upside down for this dog and they don't care. Their staff is uneducated and rude.If you care anything about animals you will not go to this place. Go somewhere else
