I went to this clinic for the first time today...actually my first time in the HCMC system (and my last!). My appointment with a physician's assistant was for 2:10. I thought I might have strep or the flu and, if so, I wanted to find out if there was anything I could do to speed up my recovery. The PA recommended a nasal swab (tortuous, but's that not my complaint) to see if I had the flu. I was to wait 10 minutes for the results. Well, 40 minutes passed, and no one bothered to stop by to tell me that the results were'nt ready yet. (All assistants were seated in a row doing computer work at this time). When I inquired, my PA said she'd check again, and a while (more than 10 for sure) later, she said it would probably be another 20 minutes or so, but that she'd call me and leave a message in case I needed to pick up the anti-flu virus prescription. Well, I went to the pharmacy to pick up another prescription, waited for her call but she did not call as promised. I tried to phone her office using the number on the appointment summary form, and I was forwarded to a main switchboard for all HCMC clinics. I was on hold for another 7 minutes or so, when a real voice answered. I explained that I needed to talk to someone at East Lake, she transferred me again to a specialist line which was an unlimited hold, apparently. I finally drove to the clinic at 4:55 (after having spent the day "waiting" for a response from these deadbeats). I was told that I could not access the clinic directly but had to go through the switchboard for all HCMC and wait for a specialist. I'm sorry, but when you can't access your health clinic directly, you're receiving substandard, bogus, bureacratic health care. When I finally arrived and spoke to the registration woman, she told me to wait again once more. She could have cared less that I'd wasted a day I should have spent resting, dealing with this incompetence. I've decided to move my primary clinic to another, healthier system. Don't use this clinic. It's bottom of the barrel, healthcare.
