The Milwaukee Fire Department, also known as MFD, is a part of the City of Milwaukee in Wisconsin. Founded in 1875, it provides fire suppression, prevention, rescue and emergency medical services. The department is staffed with more than 800 firefighters, technicians and paramedics who offer basic and advance life support services. The Milwaukee Fire Department has over 30 engines, trucks and paramedic units, as well as nearly 35 fire stations. In addition, the department operates firefighting division, as well as the bureaus of administration, instruction and training, construction and maintenance and special operations. The Milwaukee Fire Department also has dive rescue and hazardous material response teams. Its public relations office works toward maintaining the image of the department. The City of Milwaukee operates health, police, library and water works departments.
