Founded in 1916, the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee is a law firm that provides free representation to immigrants, elderly, prisoners, unemployed, homeless and HIV infected individuals. It also represents mentally challenged and developmentally disabled individuals and abused and neglected children. The firm s civil division attorneys handle cases related to housing, public benefits, civil rights, bankruptcy, tax controversies, consumer disputes, and elder and family law. It also conducts a pro bono project that trains people who are willing to support and act as a legal advocate for adults with mental disabilities. In addition, it deals in litigation of class actions against large corporations and government entities. The Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee employs more than 25 attorneys and maintains a location in Milwaukee.
