All WRONG Moving Systems

My husband and I were horribly disappointed with our move using Allwright Moving Systems (AMS) as the origin moving company. We thought that the move would go smoothly since AMS was assigned to us through Mayflower - which is generally known to be a reputable moving company. However, AMS provided us with terrible service and we would never recommend them to anyone else.

The following items are examples of what happened throughout the whole moving process:

- The office staff would not promptly return phone calls or emails. I would have to call and/or email several times before getting a response, often resulting in a lag time of several weeks before I had an answer to my question.

- When the moving truck didn't show up on time on moving day, the AMS movers chose to sit in their own truck instead of calling the truck driver or main office to see what was causing the delay. A couple hours later, when I discovered what had happened, *I* ended up calling the truck driver only to find out that the truck had broken down. Had the movers been responsible, many hours of wait time would have been avoided.

- The movers were EXTREMELY CARELESS with our belongings. At one point I watched several boxes crash onto the sidewalk as a mover chose to quickly roll our boxes down a hill on a dolly rather than carefully carrying them one-by-one. My husband also heard boxes falling in the hallway as they left our apartment. It’s a wonder any of our things were still intact by the time we received them.

- The movers DID NOT PROPERLY PROTECT OUR FURNITURE. In fact, two desks were ruined (broken and scratched to the point beyond repair), one dresser was ruined (also broken and scratched), antique furniture was badly damaged (note these were items we had listed as high value!), and on goes the list. We had no knowledge of their mistreatment of our goods until they showed up at the destination and the new movers apologetically explained that the AMS movers had somehow REMOVED ALL THE FURNITURE PADDING and had crammed all the furniture as closely together as possible, resulting in lots of damage. As an example, they found an elliptical machine placed directly on top of one of our desks, which had caused many gauges in the wood.

- We spent weeks trying to file a claim, and the result was successful and fair in terms of compensation, but it was definitely a headache. If we hadn’t purchased full-value coverage, we would have lost thousands of dollars. We filed the claim directly with Corporate Mayflower (there's an online form) rather than filing with AMS, because we were afraid AMS would never take responsibility for the damage.

- If there was any doubt of AMS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY, they had charged us several extra hundred dollars on our bill for things that had no proof/documentation. (As a side note, I had to call AMS twice before they finally sent me a copy of the bill. Apparently they thought it was sufficient just to tell me the final price!) When I called Corporate Mayflower to inquire (after trying to contact AMS directly for several weeks and having no luck), they did an investigation and refunded the money that had been incorrectly charged to us.

I think Mayflower as a whole is probably still a reputable company, but AllWright Moving Systems definitely is NOT. The company is irresponsible and doesn’t care about the people moving or goods it is responsible for. If you are moving to/from Milwaukee and are considering using Mayflower (or its partner company, United Van Lines), please do yourself a favor and do NOT use Allwright Moving Systems as one of your movers.
