I would not recommend Hoffman Plumbing to anyone. They had told me it would cost a certain amount to come out and that would cover the first 1/2 hour and it would be another $$ per hour plus any parts. Within the first 1/2 hour they determined it was an electrical problem and that they could not fix it. They proceeded to "trouble shoot" and put $35 of parts into the job. When asked what they were doing since they stated "we are not electrons", they stated they were continuing to do more trouble shooting...(at $$$ an hour). I asked them to stop and stated you already told me you couldn't fix the problem. As soon as they realized that the problem was electrical they should have stopped, they are not electricians and could not fix the problem. Plus they should have called me and asked permission to trouble shoot. You do not do work on anything with out getting permission and giving and estimate first. I knew the initial cost of coming out & putting in a new switch if needed, that was it, nothing else.
At one point the gentlemen was fiddling with a switch on the shed (not the pump) with a screwdriver and I asked him if he had a new switch to replace it with, he said no.....so I said ok then that's it. I am thinking why do I need to pay you to look at a switch you cannot not even replace. They charged me for 2 hours of service and the $35 of parts...and my pump was not fixed. When looking at my receipt, they over charged me by $10 an hour over the quoted rate. I called them to notify them of the error, they would not return my call. They only did so after I placed a stop payment. Once they called me back and I stated my case, they were rude and stated..."pay what you think is fair and I will never deal with anyone in your family ever again." They also stated that they did not charge me for the second man who came out to trouble shoot also (Mr. Hoffman the father). I then gave them a check for what I thought was fair...One hour of service plus the $35 parts. They refused my check and their lawyer sent a threatening letter to me. NEVER use this company. They are not honest people and their story and price changes with the wind. I would even go as far to say they are bullies.
