Great job

Smileys Boat Repair has worked on my old Rinker I/O. Did a great job at a very reasonable price which has allowed me to continue to enjoy the boat. Also took the time to explain the repairs that were done. Great fast service.

Couldn't ask for more

I took my boat into Dave for what I thought was going to be an expensive repair. Dave dropped what he was doing to take a look and discovered the problem was a small thing. He didn't charge me a thing for his time. He was very free with the advice. I would highly recommend him as an honest guy who knows what he is doing.

My boat works

After a year of people working on my boat saying they know what they are doing.. Smiley proved it.

Excellent Service

We owned our used boat for one year, and thought it ran great. Only after we took it into Smiley's did we learn it had never been running up to its full potential. Dave repaired our boat quickly, and professionally. Now we know how the boat is actually supposed to perform. We will be sure to use him again in the future.

Great boat shop!

Dave is a super guy - friendly, helpful, a super competent mechanic, and delivers great service at reasonable prices. My 1975 Ranger bass boat has NEVER run as well as it has since he serviced it and rebuilt the carbs. He also gave me sound advice for free on the 5 HP engine on my other, smaller boat. I was able fix it myself, saving me even more money. I highly recommend this boat shop!! Thanks, Dave!!

STOP IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A BOAT MECHANIC!!!!

Dave, I want to thank you again for your excellent service. To all the boat owners out there reading these reviews and trying to find an honest competent boat mechanic STOP, you have found him. Dave was professional, diligent honest and very informative. I gave Dave pretty much an open check book to repair anything he thought my 30ft Nordic needed, what an open invitation for 99.9 percent of the mechanics out there. My cabin door has never worked since I purchased the boat, I told dave replace the motor and dave saves me $400 and says it was just a loose connection? Wow, HONEST as heck here! Tell dave replace my belts ... Dave tells me they are perfect.... The point here is Dave is honest... If you need something he will tell you and if you don't he will tell you as well.... Lastly, I am extremely neurotic with my boat, no shoes, no greasy hands etc. etc. Dave was immaculate with his work using drop cloths to get in an out of the boat, kept my boat inside and covered while the boat was there.. Thanks again Dave, I will recommend you to all my friends.... 5 STARS IS NOT ENOUGH IN MY OPINION!!!

Knowledgable owner, fair pricing

I recently bought an older boat that needed some TLC. I found Smiley's online. He walked me through some repairs that were necessary, other concerns I had about the boat and offered advice for general maintenance. This guy knows his stuff. He'll take the time to explain it and is resonable with his pricing. Open communication is key to any relationship and this place will tell you like it is.

Honest Mechanic

Brought my boat to Smiley - he walked me through what needed to be done - completed my boat in a timely fashion with a very fair price. Will always go back to Smiley's Boat Repair for all my boat needs!!

Read On

I put a review in the other day describing how Smileys ripped me off and sure enough it has disapeared. Read all the reviews and I think you will see what he is doing....Every bad review he gets he bury's...If you want to get taken this is your guy.

Well informed and fair pricing

I recently sold my Champion bass boat to a member of the military and wanted to be sure that he did not have problems with the boat after purchasing it. I vollunteered to have a buyers inspection done at my expense and the buyer chose Smiley's boat repair to have it checked out. Dave found problems with the boat that another boat mechanic had missed and he took the time to explain exactly what needed to be done. The cost for the work was at the lower end of what I was quoted and the work was done in a reasonable amount of time. If and when I purchase another boat, I will defiinately go back to Smiley's to have it serviced.

Great Job On My New Boat

After getting my new boat and motor I took it to Dave's for rigging. I should note that prior to dropping the boat off I called 4 boat dealers in the Phoenix area for quotes. Dave's hourly rate was considerably cheaper and unlike the dealers, I was able to speak directly with the person (Dave) who would be doing the work. Also one of the dealer's parts manager knew Dave and recommended him. All of the work was done in a competent manner and the boat was ready to be picked up when promised. At this point I asked Dave to install gauges I bought on-line in the boat's console. One of the gauges required that a bracket be handcrafted in order to be hooked up. Again all of this additional work was done quickly and at a competitive price. Another advantage of using Dave is, unlike other marine shops, he doesn't mark-up the price of parts he has to purchase on your behalf. Finally, about 2 weeks after I picked up my boat, Dave called me to see how the boat was performing. I can't recall any mechanic marine or otherwise ever calling to see how their work turned out. My next job for Dave will be to install a fish finder I currently have on order.

Smileys.........

i bopught a 19 year old Tracker last month. Needless to say, there were many more problems then showed up at the time of the sale. I too0k it to Smileys, after checking hios ratings on the internet, and am one HAPPY fella because i did. He not only replaced the impeller but fixed a couple problems from a previous installation. Neither of us were satisified with the way the motor ran and sounded.and he found out that the carbs needed to be rebuilt, then the fuel pump was pulled and it was full of rust. He moved the fuel filter to ahead of the pump instead of behind it and repaied everything. Not only did he do a super job on the motor but spent time explaining and showing me the problems and how to avoid them in the furture. I give Smileyts Boat Repair 10 stars out of five..... It seems that maybe a competitor might be trying to drive business his/her way from the looks of a couple of tyhe reviews. If anyone has any questions about getting work done at Smileys Boat Repair. please contact me and I will tell you just how up front and honest this man is........Thank you Dave............

Stay away!

Dave Smiley of Smiley's Boat Repair - I had to get MESA POLICE TO GET OUR BOAT BACK! Smiley picked our boat up from Lake Pleasant and charged us on the invoice for the return back to the lake. He did some shoddy repairs to the boats boots (2) of them. He didn't install the cables correctly and attached them improperly so when we were in the lake we ended up hitting another boat because reverse could not be found on the throttles. It had nothing to do with not knowing how to operate a boat, it was shear negligence or he just didn't know what he was doing! It COULD HAVE KILLED US, luckily it didn't. So back to the return of the boat to the lake, he rewrote a new invoice and deleted off the return of the boat even though we paid for it. Like $300. How cleaver and convienent. But before we found all this out we had him store our boat under covered storage, or so we told. We MADE A SURPRISE VISITonly to find our beautiful teak wood being destroyed by the AZ summer weather. No cover, not even the full cover that was in the boat or the smaller cover wasnot used. It was full of dirt and destroyed the interior. Now, it was supposed be be on consignment from him plus we paid storage fees. Tell me how anyone could show a boat in the condition and let it degrade to the condition he had let it get to. I wouldn't even look at a boat that was that damaged! We had already PAID OUR BILL IN FULL over $2500 many months before we decided that we needed to get the boat out of there quick. He wouldn't release the boat to us as he insisted we pay another $40 for storage even after all his mamma drama, and sign a release form stating that the boat is in the same condition as when we gave him the repair. I wish I could show you the paper he wanted me to sign, but no attachments are allowed it seems. Also the 2 invoices that he rewrote to his liking. I can't wait for a judge to see that! OMG really. Have you ever picked up a car and had the repair service keep your car hostage until you signed a paper stating it was in the same condtion and that nothing was missing and that he would NOT be held RESPONSIBLE OR BE ABLE TO SUE HIM? LOL I doubt it! We said no way would we sign that as our boat was almost unrecognizable. He put our boat inside his repair shack and locked it up so we couldn't get it until we signed that paper he made up. At that point the Mesa Police had to be called in as he was keeping our boat illegally. We had a gentleman waiting to tow the boat and he was just astounded that this CIRCUS was going on. He had to wait almost 3 hours to finally get our boat out of there. Two squad cars responded and made him give us back our boat. It would have made a great comedy movie except it wasn't very funny. It was the worse experience I have ever ever ever had in my life with a repair service. And he did have my phone number to go to the lake to pick up my boat, other wise how in the heck would he have been able to know it was there and needed repair. Can't you do better and just admit when you did a customer wrong. Maybe an apology would be nice! Stay away!!! If you notice he will have someone post a perfect review to bury a bad review. How many times have you ever posted a review because you had good service? Don't you just expect it?? I know I do! AS I TOLD YOU, GOOD REVIEW HAS BEEN APPLIED. REALLY... OH YOU KNOW THIS ISN'T BOGUS U SILLY BOY! DO YOU WANT ME TO POST THE POLICE RECORD # 4U?

Smiley comes through again

Once again Dave has fixed our screw ups and got us ready for another season of boating. One of these days I might even follow advice and use the stabilizer he recommended. I have been going here for the last 4 years, not real sure what the other reviews are about, all my dealings with Dave have been great. He has gone out of his way to help me on many different occasions.
