Since this church location appealed to me very much, as I'm over 70 and quite arthritic bound, I wanted a church close enough for me that I could go to often at least on the holidays. We were married in a Lutheran church in another state back east, so I thought it would be perfect for us. It was a month before Easter when we went to a greet and meet type of affair here. Although the people I met that night were very friendly, (most women, a few men) both my husband and I were taken aback when the Pastor's wife said to me, "well, you might want to consider going elsewhere". She said this because I mentioned not believing in a devil per se. Apparently, its more like a club, where all the club members think alike and if you do not, then you dare not speak your mind or thoughts. I said to my husband later that night how sad I was because I can well imagine had we lost our daughter only recently rather than a decade ago, I would have been devastated by this very un-Christianlike remark. To tell the truth, I was somewhat devastated and sad. Still am.
