Be CAREFUL!!! Very shady business policy!! Also, the care that was provided to someone that I know, resulted in them not finding a birth defect early on and creating extra issues!! Ask your friends and family what they have heard about this place before choosing to entrust your life and the precious life of your baby in their hands.... FYI..... Make sure to ask how much they will charge you if you have to transfer your care to another place due to medical reasons... They break down all your visits and charge you per office visit $250.00 dollars!! I personally wouldn't go there even if they paid me!!!

If I could leave 0 stars I wou...

If I could leave 0 stars I would! This place (now named new beginnings baby place) has shady business tactics. I contacted them in the middle of my pregnancy looking for a natural birth option. We were on medicaid, had NO money, and I had become pregnant again 3 months after giving birth to our first daughter. They told me that I wouldn't be charged because I was on medicaid and they would collect the fees from them. We signed paperwork stating all of this. I had my first visit and was told afterward that medicaid had cut their funding and they would now be charging a "discounted" rate of $2500! I asked them about the original agreement we had. They supposedly didn't have record of that agreement even though I had my own copy and after pleading my case with Jerusha Goodwin, I was informed there would be no change in the amount they expected me to pay. At that point I told them I would not be in their care. I was already hesitant after all the warnings I had received from different ppl in the community.

I started to seek out other midwives and was told that things happen for a reason and being rejected by the baby place could have been a blessing in disguise. We borrowed money from family and we finally found an amazing midwife to come to our home for our delivery. She also introduced us to a doula who helped through the entire process. They were more than happy to work with what little funds we had. My doula didn't even charge. They were both a blessing to our family! Thank God for these women who put their passion for midwifery and love of mankind ahead of finances.

Our baby is now 7 months old and to add insult to injury, we have just received notice from New Beginnings Baby Place, that our account is severely delinquent and if the $2500 is not payed in full within 10 days they will contact a credit collection agency and possible legal action.

Baby Place, I'm sorry you decided on a $5 million settlement for medical malpractice, but it is not our responsibility to help you pay off this debt. I was never in your care, never had my baby at your center. And since your letter states you have contacted us repeatedly in an attempt to redeem the amount owed, you would think someone would answer the phone or call us back to discuss the matter.

Do not give birth at this birt...

Do not give birth at this birthing center!!! I thought I was in awesome care during my whole pregnacy but when I went into labor this all changed. I had a horrible experience, was in active labor for over 17hrs not able to push because these Midwives would not let me. My baby was born limp, pale, unresponsive. Not to mention I had 4th degree tears and am still healing at 8 months! Come to find out the ladies that delivered my baby are student midwives, arent even licensed, and were not supervised by a Licensed Midwife! From what I was told during my labor my babies heartrate was great...after he was born and they visited us in the hospital, then they tell us his heart rate had dropped. But yet nothing was done about this while I was in labor and we had no idea!! Now this place is under investigation , so glad and hoping they will be shut down for good. I am all for natural birth and not against midwives...I just recommend not choosing The Baby Place .

The recent press and publicity...

The recent press and publicity is shortsighted and incomplete - a one-sided story. Compare the statistics, and you will clearly see that birth centers and midwives present a safer birth experience for mom and baby, with a much lower mortality rate for either. If the press would run the numbers of mishaps or fatalities caused by the hospital environment, we would all see that the numbers don't lie, hospitals are the most dangerous place to give birth. This comparison rings true for The Baby Place as well. A couple recent negative experiences yet their mortality rate is still around 0.2%. Yes it's going to happen once in a while. It does everywhere. The more births the assist the more it's going to happen. That's math, folks. Compare the numbers to hospitals and it will shock you - hospitals are NOT the ideal place for deliveries.

Me? First hand experience with our most recent child born at The Baby Place last year. Wonderful, caring, safe experience - attended by 3 midwives (our first two were born elsewhere, with a single midwife - not that there's anything wrong with that, but 3! The service and attention were first-rate).

Midwifery in Idaho and elsewhere in the USA is under attack by large corporations (e.g. hospitals) and others who benefit financially from the huge "industry" that has become childbirth. Buck the trend - go NATURAL - the way it has been for millenia!

This place does an amazing job...

This place does an amazing job of giving you the choice to have the birth experience to be yours exactly how you want it and dream about it to be(like your wedding day) instead of at the doctor's or hospital's convenience and choice. Ladies, we women have been having babies for ages without doctor assisted care. Do any of you realize how many babies are sickly or actually die in the hospital environment? Go to any blog site babycenter.com etc. where Mom's are talking about their babies passing away at the hospital. If you are thinking about having your baby outside of the hospital with or without a midwife....congratulations....your birth will be yours and your families. Much prayers to all....love Mother of three children born naturally.

Ask a zillion SPECIFIC questions. Don't take vague answers. Go with your gut. Ask about numbers of babies that have died before they were 30 days old. Do your homework. Ask a hospital nurse about your prospective midwife(s). I was a client here. Wish I had done all the things I'm asking you to do.

I am simply writing this revie...

I am simply writing this review to let you know DO NOT GO HERE TO GIVE BIRTH. Even under perfect circumstances, where everything seems to be going normal you just do not know. There are just too many people with the same stories at this place. My sister gave birth to her first baby here. Her baby girl was born not breathing and was without oxygen for too long and the ambulance was not called when things started to look bad. There was no sense of urgency, no worry until it was too late. My niece was born and nothing could be done.. she was completely brain damaged. She died 2 weeks later. This is not something to take lightly, it is real. Babies are dying that shouldn't. This place needs to be shut down.

The Baby Place is THE place wh...

The Baby Place is THE place where any mother will receive the BEST care for herself and her baby. My baby is now 6 months old, and I thank Coleen and all the midwives at The Baby Place for their part in making sure my baby got here safe and sound. I think fondly of them often, and hope to be fortunate enough to experience another pregnancy and delivery with them. They care more than any other health care professional that I have ever met, and many, MANY other women who have delivered there feel the same way!!! I believe that if I had given birth in a hospital setting my baby may not be here to hold today. It is because of the expertise and attention of these midwives that I had a supremely positive experience with my pregnancy and delivery as well as post partum care. How many other people can say they LOVED their experience? That they felt cared for? That the experience was personalized to the unique needs of the mother and family? Especially in a medical setting!! This is THE only place you should consider when looking for a midwife!! I believe any one of these midwives could stand toe to toe with any other medical provider out there, and win! They are well equipped to handle any situation, are compassionate, and have experience beyond measure. I thank God for them every day. They are truly Heaven-sent angels on earth. Go to The Baby Place for your pregnancy and delivery! They are the BEST!

THE BABY PLACE IS PHENOMENAL! ...

THE BABY PLACE IS PHENOMENAL! I've had 2 babies here & both experiences left so many wonderful memories with me & my husband. As a RN, I have witnessed the midwives having exceptional expertise, knowing exactly what to do in every situation. I felt such a calming spiritual presence during my labor process & delivery which was especially important to me. It was so quiet, far better than I ever imagined giving birth. Even the smell of the center is comforting! When we arrived @ the baby place we were welcomed with the warming arms of my midwives & put up in a nice room with candles a big super comfy bed. I really & truly felt as if we had just walked into a nice suite @ a resort, it was such a nice transition from home. I could not imagine giving birth anywhere else!

If you are looking for a birth...

If you are looking for a birth option that is outside of the typical hospital setting, I would recommed The Baby Place!

I have been involved in many births there, and am quick to share that Coleen and her staff are highly experienced, carefully trained, and knowledgeable.

I have seen them in action during both great births and difficult births, and believe in their ablilities to handle each with the appropriate care and consideration.

I have found all the Midwives at The Baby Place to be compassionate and kind; respecting and regarding the birthing couple's ablitly to make wise choices involving the birth of their baby.

There are many ways to bring children into this world, but I would have not imagined I would have been given the opportunity to bring my little girl into this world with such peace and serenity! I LOVED my experience so much at The Baby Place. I loved that they gave me the freedom to make the choices for my birth that I felt most comfortable with. They gave me information and guidance, but in the end still allowed me to make the decision. The facility is so warm and comforting which helped me relax and be able to focus on bringing my daughter into this world.

COLEEN IS AN EXCEPTIONAL MIDWIFE! I had two babies at The Baby Place and Coleen was amazing. I had great prenatal care and support throughout my labors. With my second birth the cord was wrapped around his neck many times and she was very quick to respond. He also needed some help with breathing and she was quick, efficient, and calm. MY SON IS ALIVE today because of Coleen and The Baby Place staff. I would not and will not ever go anywhere else to have my baby.

Another baby placed in critical condition and a mother requiring surgery because of this facility. After the mother pushed for over 6 hours, my nephew was born lifeless, not breathing. After calling 911, when the emergency personnel arrived, they were not allowed inside!! This place needs to be shut down!!

Coleen Goodwin is the best midwife I have ever had! I had to be transported during my birth, and it was her expertise that saved my baby's life. I am ever grateful for her love, compassion, and generosity. She and another midwife from the center stayed with me throughout the transport, labor, birth, and several hours of recovery. Coleen definitely loves her work, and is an ANGEL on earth!

Every pregnant woman should go...

Every pregnant woman should go to The Baby Place for their prenatal care and delivery. EVERY WOMAN!! There is not enough good I can say about the midwives and their standard of care. Not only are they extremely educated and experienced, but their compassionate healthcare rates above all others. If we have any more children we will ONLY go to The Baby Place, and we refer everyone we know who is expecting to go to them as well. They are special. They are as very special as the precious babies they deliver. Birth is an experience you will never forget, and every woman should give birth in a place and with people who care about HER. This place is it. Trust me!

Maybe this is a good place to ...

Maybe this is a good place to have a perfect birth... a lot of places are. I had a complication during my birth and it was not handled well. I was not treated with warmth and kindness that you would expect from a midwife (there were 3 at my birth) and it was a very cold environment. My baby started to lose his heart beat and the ambulance was not called. Instead I was told to push when I wasn't dilated. When the ambulance was FINALLY called and I couldn't push him out fast enough the EMT's were not told this was a life threatening emergency but just a labor transfer. I was then made to drive an additional 20mins to St Lukes Downtown (instead of St. Lukes Meridian or St Als). My child was born and dead when we reached the hospital. My midwife didn't speak a word to me in the ambulance while I was pushing. I look back at this and can't believe this happened. It's like a nightmare.

I believe in birth centers for perfect births. But you don't know if your birth is going to be perfect until it's in the hands of your midwife to make the correct call and not take the risks... the risks are too high. You HAVE to have a midwife that is not afraid to call 911 or take you to a hospital and is not afraid of hospitals. It's likely that if they called an ambulance and had me taken to St Lukes Meridian (5 mintues away) that my child would be alive today.

I've had 2 close friends with labor emergencies that were at Treasure Valley Midwives. They are less than 5 minutes away from St Lukes Downtown and they saved both of these babies by recognizing the emergency and acting quickly.

I'm not against home/birth center birth... but please be sure that your midwives have an emergency plan that will actually work... and are not afraid to do it. It just may save your childs life.

#1 Choice

What can I say The Baby Place is the Best place to have your baby; if it is your 1st or your 10th. I interviewed muiltiple Midwives and felt automatically at home with the Midwives and staff a the Baby Place. Throughout your pregnancy they make you feel comfortable and safe. After having my 1st child in a hospital enviroment and with an epidural I can honestly say that my birth experiance was much better and smoother with a midwife. I felt more alert and energized (enough so that I took my son trick-or -treating two days after giving birth) than I did with my first, recovery was so much quicker. I could go on and on about the service and self-sacrifice these women deliver on your behalf. If you want a great birthing and pregnancy expirence the Baby Place is the Place for you.
