I've been coming to Cheyenne at Tang's Alterations my whole life - my first homecoming dresses, prom, athletic uniforms, college graduation robes, my first (low end) business suit that got me my first interview, through better jobs that yielded high end suits and lead to inaugural ball gowns, and now she's doing my wedding dress. I've lived in major cities all over the U.S., and been to tailors around the world and no one is better than Tangs. I always come back to Manassas, just to see her, and I bring her everything-- from little odds and ends like sleeves and hems, to recrafting Marchesa and Alexander McQueen pieces to fit me but look like they were created that way and to keep the integrity of the pieces in tact... For any important piece of clothing I have-- valuable either in sentiment or cost--I skip all the NYC and DC tailors and only trust Tang because her skill and vision is exquisite. She sees recrafting clothing like it is an art. You will not regret going-- there's no tailor as good as she is... anywhere.

After receiving a referral from a friend, I decided to go to Tang's in Manassas for my wedding dress alterations. My appointment was with Xiao-Yin Byrom. Bad idea. First of all, she made me come in before business hours (9:00am) because, as she put it, I'm so busy the rest of the day. Secondly, when we arrived, she had forgotten that we made the appointment, and commented that we were lucky that she just happened to be there. Thirdly, you won't be able to get a word in edge-wise. Have questions? Too bad, she will shoo them away like an annoying fly.



When my mother spoke up about being rushed, Mrs. Byrom proceeded to ignore her for the rest of the appointment. Later in the day, I received a call from Mrs. Byrom, telling me that she thought my mom was rude, and that my mom was asking too many questions, and that if we didn't trust her expertise, then maybe she wasn't the right person to alter my dress. I swiftly agreed with her, and told her that I would in no way allow her to work on my dress.



Now, to be fair, I know we all have bad days, but this takes the cake.



Be prepared for a similar experience if you are a bride, or her mom...
