Sometimes the computer repair work is done right. Sometimes it isn’t.

There were problems on 2 of the last 3 times I went to Computer Direct (CD) over the last year. I used Computer Direct for the last few years, but not any more.

CD keeps notes on the repair jobs it has done. CD also tries to fix a problem within 48 hours.

CD didn’t keep thorough notes to prevent the 1st incident & it didn’t meet its deadline during the 2nd incident.

The 1st incident occurred during spring 2013 with my personal laptop, which runs Windows XP.

My laptop’s hard drive had to be replaced. I asked the tech assigned to it if he had notes from a former tech, who left CD, on how to restore a multimedia player made for my laptop. The tech said he should have notes from all previous repair work.

The hard drive was replaced, the operating system was restored, & the drivers & applications were reinstalled—except for the multimedia player. The tech told me that the ex-worker didn’t leave notes on how the multimedia player was restored, he couldn’t figure out how to do it, & the store manager told me they wouldn’t reach out to the former employee to ask how he restored the multimedia player.

I got a partial rebate & used another multimedia player.

The 2nd incident was in January 2014 with a computer I use in a store to run a retail POS (point of sale) system & access the internet for online sales. The computer is a refurbished model that runs Windows XP Pro that I got from CD in 2012.

CD told me the hard drive had to be replaced. The same tech who serviced my laptop was the same one assigned to this computer. From 1/2014-3/2014, I picked up & returned the computer 5 times.

The 1st time, the computer didn’t recognize a POS receipt printer through the parallel port & it wouldn’t let me install the printer driver.

When I came back, I was told to bring another printer that used a parallel cable so that the parallel port could be tested. The tech didn’t know what caused the problem.

He manually installed the other printer & its driver. He said I could install the POS printer & driver, but I still couldn’t.

On the 3rd time, I also brought the POS printer. We used hand receipts to record sales for a few days. The printer & an alternate driver were installed. When I brought the computer & printer to work, the type font of the receipt was too large & parts of the receipt text weren’t shown on the receipt paper.

On the 4th time, the tech had the computer for a week. He manually installed the printer and correct driver. When I brought the computer & printer back, they worked for half a day when the computer stopped printing receipts.

On the 5th time, the tech had the computer for 8 days but couldn’t get it to print a receipt. I took the computer & printer to another repair shop.

The other shop installed some additional drivers & told me that the printer & driver were already installed. A tech at the 2nd shop said he couldn’t print receipts, so I asked if some backed up sales files were installed. They weren’t. When the tech installed them, the POS system printed receipts again.

While my computer was at CD, I was told that since Microsoft would stop supporting XP, I should get a new computer or get a new operating system installed. I considered getting Windows 7 & a new POS system. But when I got a “discounted” estimate, I kept XP.

I was refunded for some of the additional repair fees, but I still overpaid for what should’ve been a quick job & lost my computer & printer for 3 months.

Went there the other day to fix my iphone and they had it back to me within a few hours. They called me to update me on the status and I was very pleased with the respect I was given. Price was extremely reasonable and the service was great! Very professional!

These Guys Were Great

I took my computer in to Computer Direct for a virus and they had it back to me the same day. The price was fair and the service was unbelievable. They kept me informed of the progress and I could not have expected any thing more.
