Up till the new owner took over this week we really enjoyed the food and service. However the new owners manager is a snob with no customer service skills. My wife and I were treated poorly by the staff and we will never eat there again. Everything has went down hill with the new staff.

Yet another Mexican restaurant...

Yet another Mexican restaurant in the old Pizza Hut-El Caporal building at 7319 Preston Hwy. The current one is brand spanking new (I’m writing this on April 28, 2011). This time they have re-done the interior with a mind-blowing bright color scheme; which somehow works really well.

They have removed some walls and really opened up the dining room. They have all new booths, tables and chairs. Everything was comfy, clean and bright- even on a very dark, stormy, early evening.

We have visited twice and both times were treated well by competent, friendly servers.

We have tried a couple of dishes and been well satisfied with all.

The all important salsa and chips arrive quickly. Chips are fresh, warm, and crispy without much salt (which I like). The 2 salsas are very fresh, with the hot one being, well…”Hot!” (a novelty here in Louisville, where most of my neighbors don’t get too brave with anything labeled “hot”).

The menu has a big percentage of your usual Mexican restaurant, El Nopal type of dishes. You will find your usual burritos, chimis and enchiladas. They do have a few different type dishes which, if you like to try new things, you may like. We especially loved the chicken dish, “Polla al Chipotle”. It was very tender with a smoky chipotle cream sauce. Very unique and new flavors…we asked for added mushrooms which we thought was a wonderful addition.

They have a full bar with your standard margaritas and Mexican beer. Drink specials are also offered. I had a gold margarita and it was very good!

All-in-all; if you like Mexican cuisine; get tired of the same old-same old, and want to try something new,-you should go. But ALSO if you like your usual stuff you will find it here with reasonable pricing (and a children’s menu), a clean and inviting atmosphere, ample portions and friendly service! What’s not to like?
