After months of research I ended up working with Adam at Zulu to design and create my rooster tattoo. It's a big 18" tattoo on my left leg. Adam did an amazing job and the rest of the staff at Zulu is great. Friendly and knowledgeable bunch of people. Nice, clean studio.

This review is so overdue it's not even funny because I got my tattoo done last year! After some serious research I chose Zulu tattoo and I am so glad I did. Misha is beyond amazing. She worked with me in designing my concept, letting me know that I could do as far as color (I'm black so I didn't know if that was an option for me). She is so sweet, warm and friendly and of course an excellent artist and super fast. It took her only three hours to do my tattoo which went along my ribcage. The tattoo healed beautifully and I receive so many compliments. Even though technically this was my second tattoo I really consider it my first , true work of art. If you want a unique, personal, piece of excellence then get your work done at Zulu. Also I have to add everybody is so cool, inviting and friendly and happy, from Keleigh to Zulu to just everyone. The shop is clean, chill, relaxing and has a very positive spiritual energy throughout. I'm planning on getting another tattoo done by Misha (she doesn't know this yet lol!) which will be a cover up of that first tattoo and I can't wait to work and create, collaborate with her again. While it is pricey let me just say for the level of craftsmanship and artistry you will receive it is worth every single penny.

Zulu Tattoo is representative of global ideas, creative people & artistic expression. Zulu is talented, yes, but it's his spiritually-minded approach to giving you your sacred mark. It's a ritual, an induction into the tribe, but all done with love and laughter, stimulating conversation and coupled within a sacred space that truly exist for the people -- All People!

Zulu's shop is a welcoming and friendly environment. All of the staff is friendly and treat you as an individual, understanding that their work will have a permenant impact on your life.
Zulu himself is not only a brilliant and ntuitive artist, but a businessman of integrity.
I have had over 40 hours of tattoo work done from various artists at Zulu Tattoo, and I would recommend this studio to anyone getting a tattoo.

First and foremost, Adam Kilss is an amazing ARTIST and I would highly recommend his talent to anyone! His attention to detail with shading is next to none. That being said...this is my first tattoo so I was extremely picky with my choice of artists. After many visits to other studios, his work was the only work that screamed ART instead of tattoo. Because of this, I waited some time for his move to Zulu Tattoo.
He proved incredibly patient and understanding about all of my questions and concerns even the most trivial of inquiries. I truly appreciated Adam's ability to take my concept (which was pretty crude) and transform it into an eye-popping art piece. While I was extremely excited about the initial sketch I was given, it has no comparison to the final product that was placed on my back. During my session, he was friendly and professional. It seemed he recognized when I was feeling anxious or in pain and helped me through the rough patches of the session (which were few BTW) It made my first experience relaxing and comfortable. Again, I highly recommend Adam Kilss to anyone looking to get a tattoo.
Regarding Zulu tattoo, I felt very comfortable in the studio. The overall vibe of the place in calming and the music was peaceful. During my first 3.5 h in the chair, time seemed to progress quickly. The staff of Zulu was great as they answered many of my questions as well. Also had the opportunity to meet Kody (another tattoo artist) who proved welcoming and cool. Shop was extremely clean and meticulous.
Anyone interested in getting some artwork on their body should visit Zulu tattoo....ask for Adam :)
Second session is on the books and I cannot wait to complete my piece.
A new LA transplant by way of NYC, this is the first place I have found that has not made me miss home. The ambience, the people, the artists...everything was amazing. I am soooo happy with my tattoo.
Great atmosphere, laid back approach, seriously talented artists. It just doen't get any better than this. If you're going to be in the area, make an appointment and pull the trigger. I constantly receives compliments on the piece that King Afa did for me. I'll be back.
At 42 I decided I wanted to get my first tattoo and I did alot of research on places/artists/designs. I finally found inspiration from a New Zealand artist and took my ideas to Zulu tattoo. My first tattoo ended up being a full back piece that is just breathtaking. I love it and give kudos to Khani, Kelly, Kali, and Kosi as all played a vital role in why I chose to go to Zulu. It was an overall fun, artistic, spiritual experience to visit them and undergo my first inking. I was very receptive to their artistic ideas and recommendations and would highly recommend them. If I decide to get any more work done, I would look forward to going back!

This was a rite of passage for me, I had just published my first book and decided to make a commitment for life and as Misha says ""it's only forever, so make sure you like it.""
Misha was amazing, I brought her a concept and not only she realized it but took it to another level and I simply loved it. It was such a pleasure to spend hours with this woman, who made me laugh and made me completely comfortable. I love my tattoo. BTW I am in my 50s and this is my first tattoo.....

Being a great tattoo artist is a talent all it's own... Misha is not just a tattoo artist, she's a healer. What was once beneath...i'll never tell...and thanks to Misha...you'll never know.

I am no novice to tattoos. I have about 20% of my body covered in beautiful pieces, all done by two artists that I trust very highly. Neither of them are in LA, and when my beloved cat of 21 years passed away on my wedding night I knew I needed to honor him with the most important tattoo of my life. The problem....where to find the perfect artist to properly honor my little one?
Upon seeing the History Channel piece on tattoo history, I was impressed by the Zulu Tattoo shop and wanted to check it out more. I had already met with four other artists who I knew immediately were not right for me, and had perused countless artist books. I emailed Catherine and she responded right away with her suggestion for my particular needs. I made the consult appointment with Lantz as per her suggestion.
The shop is beautiful,VERY clean, but warm, none of that ""stark"" feel. Catherine is lovely and helpful and Lantz was right on time for our appointment. Two minutes with him and I knew he was the perfect person, just as it was suggested he would be. We discussed the piece and they went out of their way to fit me in before I left the country for a long business trip.
It has been 12 years or so since my last piece, and I was admittedly a bit nervous. Lantz made me feel at ease and talked to me to keep me distracted through the toughest parts. He finished it in a very short time considering the great detail (did not milk the clock like some artists will) and the results? INCREDIBLE. The colors are so vibrant, the detail so beautiful, and he captured the essence of my little beast so perfectly it seems like he is a photograph.
Needless to say, I am ecstatic with the whole experience, beginning to end. I even chatted a little with Mischa, who is really lovely, and got a sample of both hers and King Afa's work while i was there and was very impressed...If this is your first, or 21st piece, this is your place!

I was visiting LA from Canada and while I was there I wanted to get a tattoo and one of the more ""popular"" tattoo shops that is on TV right now. I called and emailed them twice and never heard a response and boy and I glad. I started researching tattoo shops in LA and found Zulu. After reading many reviews on this site an others I was very impressed so I thought I would give it a try, and after my first expeience I wasn't expecting much. Boy was I wrong. Zulu had to be the most organized, professional and comfortable tattoo shop. I was very impressed with the quick response from Catherine for booking the tattoo (within 24 hours of my initial email). I had a very origianl idea and was worried if it would come out looking like I wanted to. I had selected Lance to do the tattoo based on Zulu's website and looking at his work. Lance was awesome. We did the consultation via email before I got to LA. To be honest when he sent me the original sample of the tattoo I was a little worried because it was only an outline and didn't really show the detail (Lance explained it would happen in the filling in). I had a few small changes and when I got to my appointment Lance had taken them into consideration and we wer ready to go. Lance was awesome. He was so easy to talk to, it was like talking to a friend. The tattoo is amazing, better than I could have ever imagined. Everyone that has seen it has had nothing but good things to say about how awesome and life-like it looks (it is an orangu-tan). Thank You Thank You Thank You. I am so happy that other place didn't call me back because I got the best tattoo ever. If you are in LA and looking for somewher to go for a tattoo go to Zulu. You won't regret it.
And to Lance - go LA Kings (I'll be rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs)!

Zulu Tattoo is so much more than just a tattoo shop. It is truly a place that celebrates community and the connection that exists between every single one of us. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the collective energy Zulu and his wife Khani were able to create and radiate outward, welcoming all walks of life in their sphere. I have spent many hours on the table, the result of which is an amazing back piece that reflects both a physical and spiritual manifestation of who and what I am. Zulu was able to channel and draw that out, both literally and figuratively, which is more than a testament to his mastered skill, incredible artistry and the depth of his spiritual being. The beauty of Zulu Tattoo is that every piece is given the same amount of attention and intuitiveness regardless of size, shape or color. Theirs is a family, a tribe, a communal consciousness that I feel tremendously grateful and lucky to have not only experienced but to forever be a part of.
I have followed Misha throughout the last 6 years to a few different shops. Not only are her skills WAY above and beyond expectation, but Zulu is the most comfortable, professional and top of the line shop out there.
