they don't deliver food at night

Called at 3:20 am because I googled food delivery. It says free delivery when you search it. The person on the phone told me that they are closed (but the website says they're open til 4 am) and they don't deliver. Confusing

We saw RATS

Food is only good when drunk. Had leftovers the next day and could not even finish them because it tasted so bad. We ordered yellow chicken curry and pad thai. Seriously gross. My friend Justin saw a big rat in the restaraunt and the waiter gave us our meal for free. DISGUSTING. Would never go back.

a birthday celebration RUINED

TOI was one of my favorite restuarants. I ordered from them for delivery for years and have been to the actual restaurant countless times. However, last night changed all of that. Having attended a b-day dinner, all was great. However, as we left, things took a sudden change. Once outside, out waiter comes out and asked us to sign an additional receipt. I did so no questions asked. He thanked us and went back inside, at which the cashier came out and then accused us of not paying the full bill. Confusion arose. We had paid the bill with two cards. I have the receipts for BOTH transactions. I showed these to her, she apologized and went inside. My friends and I chatted a bit before crossing the street-- at which time it dawned on me that I was given receipts and fortune cookies, but NO DEBIT CARD. I went inside to question this. The employees became very rude, accusing us of not giving them a card, etc. Again I showed them both receipts... questioned where my card was. They claimed I didnt supply them a card-- then said they ran the card and returned it... then said they didnt know where the card was... started using foul language and told us to leave. I immedietly called my bank-- which verified I was charged not once, but TWICE within 4 minutes of each other. I called the restuarant with all authorization numbers, transaction details, etc. The girl I spoke to on the phone was very rude, told me to ""shut the F up!"", called me a liar, and hung up. I contacted my legal rep. who called to speak to a manager. She was told the manager would only be on duty for one hour the following day... Today, I called to speak to a manager, was told he was not available... I have reported to beter business bureau, Wells Fargo, etc. Very upset. Businesses should not be ran in such manner... I am sad to say they have lost my business forever...

Great theme, no substance

I visited Toi recently, and my first impression was - ""ok.. they have a rock/Hollywood theme. cool. Oh look! They even have a bouncer! er, I mean 'host'""

After that, it was VERY lackluster. You can get better Thai food anywhere else in L.A. with better service than this place, and will probably cost you less money.

As for service - forget it. Unless you ordered too many plates and they have to clear room for more food, you can forget about them busing your table until the end of the meal. (My visit was during the week, and the restaurant was half empty.)

Also, the fact that I can see the servers smoke outside, come back in, then continue to wait on tables without washing their hands? GROSS!
With this going on, I don't know if anyone was even managing this place!

So, unless it's my friend's birthday and they intensely insist on going there, I will NEVER suggest this place to anyone I know.

Great food and atmosphere!

I tried this place for the first time last night and it was delicious. The service was good and the prices were right. We were seated immediately and the food came out fairly quickly. The only thing I didn't like was that you have to pay extra for rice.

Horrified

I am a member of an acting group in the area and we frequent this place, bring them a lot of business. The food is okay (I PREFER SUNSET THAI) but it was convenient since it is open very late. A fellow actor (who is also in the play we are opening in May) went in to get a Chai tea to go. Not only did they refuse to serve her, they kicked her out. This gentle woman has cerebral palsy (she has a slight speech impediment) and in NO WAY resembles a homeless crackie. A few of us returned to the restaurant to give them the opportunity to apologize for this error and they were VERY RUDE and pointed to the sign that says ""we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"", however, that does not mean that they can refuse service based on race, gender or disability.

She has such a huge heart she would have been satisfied with an apology. Not only did they not apologize, they were horribly rude. This behavior is totally unacceptable and horrifying. If they could not distinguish between a physically disabled, nicely dressed woman carrying a book bag and a homeless crackhead then THEY are the ones with the disability. SHAME SHAME SHAME

Late Night Thai Cravings

My friends and I love to stop at this place after a night out and I always love the food here! Good size portions to share, good thai food, and the servers are always so sweet to us. Parking can be hard, but late at night there's usually a meter open nearby. If you're in the mood for a quiet dinner though, skip it. It can get kinda loud.

Consistently good thai food

Thai food is pretty competitive business in LA. I've have eaten at probably a couple dozen Thai places since I moved out here and Toi is definitely one of the best.

Their food is consistently good. My girlfriend and I eat here every month or so and normally get the spicy fried rice and red curry. They are both really tasty and there is always enough left over to bring home the next day for lunch.

The atmosphere is very unique (in a good way) and welcoming. The staff is friendly, they play good music and you don't pay Hollywood prices for drinks. Old LP covers, album promos, neon signs and random art adorn the walls. It feels like CBGB turned into a restaurant.

Anytime I plan on going out to grab some good food, Toi is usually up at the top of the list.

Cute but they put MSG in things without warning

I ate there once, it is a cute restaurant with yummy food and good portions, interesting decor. I had a pad see ew and all seemed well. When we went to leave I got the most massive migraine ever, was throwing up all night and couldn't see. This only happens to me when I eat MSG. My boyfriend called and asked if they put MSG in the pad see ew and they said no, but it was pretty obvious to me since I hadnt eaten anything else but my usual for days. So watch out if you're sensitive.

THE WORST, RUDEST STAFF EVER...MCDONALS HAS BETTER SERVICE

WORKED IN THE RESTAURANT BUSSINESS FOR ALMOST 10 YEARS,, I WORKED FROM SOMETHING AS CHEAP AS MCDONALDS, TO THE PALM ON DOWNTOWN, AND I'VE NEVER SEEN A STAFF SO DIRECTLY RUDE TOWARDS THE CUSTOMERS.I WORKED AT BOSSANOVA GRAVEYARD SHIFT AND I HAD TO DEAL WITH GETTO, DRUNK, RUDE AND CRAZY BUT I NEVER GAVE THEM THE ATTITUDE I RECEIVED IN THIS PLACE. I CAME IN TO JOIN MY FIRENDS AFTER CLOSING THE RESTAURANT I WORK AT around 2:30 AM, THE HOST saw me and SAID ""OH ARE YOU MEETING THEM""?? POINTING TOWARDS MY FRIENDS AND ADDED ""WELL I DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, THEY SAID IT'D BE 5 ONLY, AND NOW THEY ARE 8, SO I CANT SIT THEM TOGETHER"", WAS KINDA SHOCKED BY HIS ATTITUDE. HE THEN WALKED AWAY AND MY FRIENDS SAT AT A TABLE WHERE TWO GIRLS WERE PREVIOUSLY EATING WHO DIDNT MIND THEM SHARING THE SAME TABLE AFTER THEY ASKED THEM, AND THE SERVER (A VERY RUDE GUY, WITH LONG HAIR, SHAVED UNDERNEATH HIS PONYTAIL NAMED CHARLY) CAME AND SAID, ""YOU CANT SIT WITH THEM, IM THE SERVER AND I MAKE THE CALL"" AND BY THEN WE GOT UP AND TRIEDTO TALK TO THE ""MGR"" AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO MANAGER, THEN THE SERVER SAID HE WAS NOT GONNA WAIT ON US AND WE COULD SIT THERE ALL NIGHT FOR ALL HE CARED, NEXT TO MY OTHERS FRIENDS THAT WERE ALREADY EATING , I WAS APPALLED BY THEY WAY THEY TREATED US, I DONT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HIS PROBLEM WAS, BECAUSE I HAD JUST WALKED IN AND WAS DRAGGED INTO THE WHOLE SITTING PROBLEM.... I WAS NEVER RUDE TO EITHER THE HOST OR THE SERVER, I ASKED TO TALK TO THE MGR AND THEY GAVE ME A PH # I CALLED AND THEY SAY HE'S NEVER AVAILABLE THAT HE WILL CALL ME LATER, AND THEY ALSO SAID THE PLACE DOESNT HAVE A MGR, WHEN IT COMES TO COMPLAINTS EACH SERVER DEALS WITH SEPARAETLY.... INSANE!!! ONE OF MY FIRENDS THAT WAS THERE WORKS FOR THE DOLCE COMPANY WHO OWNS DOLCE AND THE GEISHA HOUSE, AND WE ARE SERIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT WRITING A STRONG LETTER ABOUT THE WAY WE WERE TREATED AS CUSTOMERS....HOPE PEOPLE GET TO RID THESE AND NEVER GO TO THAT PLACE AGAIN....

good food long wait

Great thai food. Very eccentric. Since the food is great there is a long wait to get a table wish it was bigger. The good thing is it is open till very late. I say go for it.

Great Thai!

Toi was a late night stop, chosen based on Frommer's positive reviews. The actual experience did not disappoint.

We were lucky to find parking at a meter on the street; there aren't a whole lot of other options. Every inch of space is utilized for tables. New arrivals wait on the sidewalk outside until a table is available. (What do they do when it rains?) We were seated quickly at a tiny table along the front window. The atmosphere was an eclectic mix of rock, patrons' conversation, and the classic ""Wizard of Oz"" playing on several big and small screens scattered throughout the space. Thai food and the winged monkeys of Oz? Funny, but it worked!

From the large, two-sided menu packed with Thai offerings ranging from basic to vegan to really intriguing, we selected chicken satay and an interesting pumpkin/ eggplant/ fried tofu dish that the menu boasted was delicious. Both items arrived within minutes. The grilled satay was flavorful, yet a tiny bit overcooked, but the accompanying peanut sauce more than compensated. It was wonderfully thick, nutty and spicy ... totally unlike many of the salad-dressing-thin varieties we've experienced elsewhere. One of us actually finished the bowl with our fingers after the chicken was gone.

The pumpkin/eggplant/fried tofu dish was amazing. Large chunks of each main ingredient were mixed with mushrooms, then bound by a deliciously savory, garlicky sauce that was like nothing we'd ever tasted. The brown rice served alongside was actually more of a black rice, so thick and chewy that it retained the shape of the bowl from which it was inverted. The depth of flavors and textures was much more than we expected! All portions were large.

The only drawbacks were the wine we ordered by the glass (obviously uncorked too long) and service that was fairly prompt and basically courteous, but with no real interest in our dining experience.

Overall, the hip and satisfying Toi really delivered.

Low-key Thai food eatery

I went there on a Thursday night. The place was pleasantly populated and not too overcrowded. The menu arrived at our table quickly and soon our food was served too. I had the Yum Tuna Salad, with onions, lettuce, cucumber in a spicy hot lime juice. My friend settled for a veggie plate with broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, snow peas, carrot and cabbage in a tofu stir fried sauce plus brown rice alongside. I can't tell that this was gourmet food, haute cuisine or that the service was exceptionally good. This place is very casual with rock tunes in the background, rock star pictures on the walls and edgy art works and decoration attached to the totally busy walls. The menu is a kind of americanized, main menu items are typical Thai dishes though. Almost every menu item includes Tofu (soya products) and rice noodles. All in all it is a good place to socialize and have some tasty reasonable priced and spicy food.

Mixed feelings about this place

I love this restaurants cool interior with rock paraphernalia all over the walls, and my curry was delicious. However, there was a sticker on one of the tomatoes in the soup I ordered, and it was difficult to find street parking. The food itself was full of flavor, but the sticker kind of ruined the experience for me. Not sure if I?d come back again.

what happened?

It seems that the quality has gone down. I have been visiting Toi for years, and it has always been above average. Not so much these days.

Very Satisfied.

Food is very good, staff is very attentive and good hearted. May take some time to get seated on the weekends but it is worth the wait. Location is pretty good, not too touristy. I'm not really a fan of the decor which is kind of grungey, but I always leave feeling satisfied.

all food is good when you're drunk & it's late

this is really so-so mediocre borderline low-quality thai food. the only good thing it they're open late. so most of the people are already drunk when they find themselves eating here so late at nite, soooo they're gonna think it's good no matter what. if you're drunk and it's late, any food is good food! if you see other thai people eating at a thai place, then you know that place is good. but all you see here is drunk (broke) white people, and eating mostly huge mounds of white rice and hardly any real thai food accompanying it. their food should just be fast food/drive-thru thai food.

Toi is totally my Thai food place of choice. I typically go to Toi for lunch with friends or work peeps. It's always fun and every dish I've ever had is loaded with flavor. Toi is the best!

My favorite restaurant in Los Angeles - Awesome Thai food, fun environment, great prices, good music

I would come here everyday if I lived in Hollywood. There are few places for which I would brave Fri. evening traffic on Sunset Blvd - but this is one of them. Do not confuse it with Toi on Wilshire. The Hollywood/Sunset location is the one!!

Food - my favorite Thai of all time. Vegetarian-friendly - they will do any dish vegi and/or tofu. Fresh vegies vary - but always fun and well stocked. The Tofu is the best I've ever had - even people who don't like tofu usually enjoy Toi's. The brown rice is the bomb! I don't love rice, but I'll eat this stuff like candy. I've never had ""Brown"" rice like this before - no way to explain it. Sauces are just awesome. I love the Dried Chili Cashew dish - the best sauce I've ever had. Pad Kee Mao is a great noodle dish. The red curry is also top notch! I could go on and on and on.... Best fortune cookies I've ever had (don't usually care about those).

The decor is fun - a rock and rollish theme. Visually overstimulating with all the rock decor plus alienish stuff handing from the ceiling. Count the Star Wars ships flying above. Great music, different every night. If you don't like loud music, this is not your place - heck, bring ear plugs - worth it for the food. Younger crowd - 20's and 30's. Howver, I've taken my parents and they did fine. Fine for a date - maybe not the first few. Very affordable. Waits get long on weekends after 9-9:30. But you're in luck, they are open until ~3ish am.

Every guest from out-of-town is JEALOUS that they don't have a Toi on Sunset!
Street park on Sunset. Food comes out FAST. Good celeb spotting too.
