Roscoe's House Of Chicken & Waffles

Provided by YP.comFirst-timers, make life easy on yourself and order the Carol C. Special. That's really all you need to know: it's a waffle and a fried chicken breast, and it's the reason crowds and presidents flock to this place. (I also like to order a side of their mac n' cheese). Expect a wait, especially late at night when a hungry, club-going crowd filters in.

Provided by Citysearchchicken fried breast is marginally good. mac n cheese is good. Prices are way too high, service is way to bad, this place is disgusting!

Provided by YP.comThis location has expanded recently by purchasing the building next door. Double your chicken and waffles, less wait! Chicken and waffles with gravy is the bomb! Mac and cheese, creamy delicious. Gotta have a Sunrise to wash it all down!

Provided by CitysearchI went years without trying Roscoe's. My friends thought I was crazy because of it. But one night we all decided to go and I have to say that it was AMAZING! When we got there, we were seated right away and given our menus. The only thing was that our waiter was a bit rude. We all ordered and when we got our food we noticed we didn't get all that we ordered. But other than that everything else was great! The gravy is to die for! You can dip anything in it and it will taste amazing!

Provided by CitysearchI don't know if I have reviewed this one...but it says the doctor wouldn't approve of the cholesterol filled fried chicken and syrup drenched waffles. But contrary to my belief, my appetite didn't approve of it either. Just not a good mix for me. I will leave this restaurant to the California natives.

Provided by YP.comThe best time to go is before and after the lunch rush. The waffles are unlike any waffles I have ever tasted & that's just being honest. The fried chicken is not greasy...doesn't even taste like the chicken was fried. Gotta try it! The service was kinda slow.

Provided by YP.comSavory, Rich, and buttery sweet. Some say you can't successfully combine all three, well that may be the case in other places in the universe but not here. Every time I pass through L.A., I gotta to make a stop. Get the gravy on the side and enjoy a glass of the half lemonade-half ice tea concoction (not an Arnold Palmer) that is oh, so sweet! And for the hardcore foodie, try an order of fried chicken livers along with the rest of your meal. Soak up that L.A. grit while you wait outside with the locals and the other tourist. Don't be suprised about the tight fit, it just adds to the no-frills ambience and intimacy of the place.

Provided by YP.comThe combination of chicken and waffles is very unique, but, my favorite was chicken wings with grits. You can taste the seasoning in each bite and the grits were o' so creamy. Each time I've gone to Roscoe's it's been a great event and worth the wait. I remember when I worked a short distance from them that it was always a challenge to see if I could eat and get back to work on time. It usually worked out.

Provided by CitysearchWhile in vaction in LA, we JUST HAD to visit many of the landmarks including Roscoe's. Not reading any reviews about this location, we had no idea what to expect. We went one night during the week at about 7pm. We lucked out and parked just about 60 feet away. As we approached, the big black man (security?) told us to go right in.
Inside it was super small. The ""main"" dining area had about 15 tables total and they were all close together.
We opted for the ""back room"" which was one big room (next to the kichen) with booths and tables spread out with plenty of room.
Our waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was very chill. I got a plate with half a chicken and two over easy eggs and toast, and no waffles suprisingly enough. It was all right i guess. My GF got a plate wtih a quarter of a chicken with waffles and she loved them.
The people there during our time there seemed to be a pinch of locals and mostly tourtisty types like ourselves.
It might have been too early or something for it to be loud and busy.

Provided by Citysearcheveryone talks about chicken and waffles because not many restaurants serve chicken and waffles so that's why i love it. The chicken is good and waffles is good with a cinnamon flavor to it. I guess when i go, it's not too busy so my experience wasn't so bad, try to go when it's not so busy. The combination is really good and i believe that this roscoes is the original one, there are others as well.

Provided by CitysearchIf your visiting L.A. you do need to eat here. If going during peak meal hours, plan on waiting a while out on the street as there is no room to wait inside. You'll want to order the chicken and waffles of course, just to say that you did. But dont get your hopes to high on the taste. The fried chicken is good, but by no means great. Same goes for the waffles. When they are busy, service is attrocious, so be patient. Price is fair.

Provided by CitysearchIf this is what you crave...nothing can beat it! My favorite is the chicken omelet....sounds crazy, but its delicious. And of course anything they do is with southern love and will leave you full, but wanting more. Great LA staple, everyone should try!

Provided by CitysearchDown home food, makes you think you're in the south. Great chicken and the combination with the waffles and syrup, which without tasting it sounds REALLY odd is really quite good. Great service, friendly staff. I'd highly recommend this joint.

Provided by CitysearchThis restaurant surprised me. I came with a friend, liking fried chicken, but not really eating it often. I loved the food. It was spectacular chicken and the waffles taste better than any I've ever had. I got the Carol C.'s I can't go that much because the meals are so heavy, but when I do go, it's delicious. The only problem with it is the wait. It's not very organized and we had to wait for at least a half an hour both times I was there. Go, see for yourself about the chicken and waffles.

Provided by CitysearchI've been here a few times but went again because my boyfriend had never gone. We ended up waiting about an hour and fifteen minutes (Sunday at 1PM)...which wasn't pleasant but is to be expected. The chicken is always delicious, moist and juicy on the inside, packed with flavor and the best fried chicken I've had anywhere. I'm not as big of a fan of the waffles, which if you don't drench in syrup can be a little dry. He got the fried chicken with gravy which was really good also. Just a note, he usually eats like a horse and even he could barely finish the 1/2 chicken with 2 waffles special, so be forewarned. Cornbread was decent although I thought it was a bit expensive at $2 for one piece. Overall, food is delicious, service is lacking but not surprising since it's not exactly a fancy sit down meal. If you've never gone, you definitely have to try it!!!
