Great for what it is- classic "Mexican" food. Many options, great margaritas, and large plates.

If you want big, authentic plates in a dark booth, this is the place for you.

While this place is known for its inexpensive taco night, I was there another night. One of the worst most unimaginative Mexican dinners that I have ever had. Tacky worn out decor. Mediocre service. Best I can say about this place is that I did not get food poisoning.

The food is delicious. The outdoor patio is great for dates and romantic dinners. i haven't been to their taco night yet, but their margaritas are worth full price too.
If you are going to be ordering fajitas, better to stay in the patio or wear some smoke masks :)
A must vist on the west side for some spicy food from over the border!

I was one of the loyal customers at Don Antonios for years, my wedding rehersal after party was there. I had great memories until few weeks ago when I took my co-workers on a Wednesday night. Yes the day for taco special. Well because of transportation we were split in two cars. When 4 of us got there the host refused to give us a table because we were missing the rest of the group. I'm a latina and I spoke to her in spanish told her what was going on, I also asked if this was a new policy because I never had this problem & I requested to speak to the Manager, she still refused to give a table and refused to let me speak to the Manager instead walked away. Here I was feeling like a fool in front of my co-workers to whom I have pictured ""Paradise"". The host was rude and basically showed us the door. Our ""fun"" night turned out to be a nightmare, thanks to an uneducated host. Good bye Don Antonio's you broke my heart that night. My family and friends will never go back there again. Lilly B.

This is one of my favorite Mexican spots in LA, and considering the competition, that’s saying something. The best time to go is Wednesdays for their $1 Taco nights. Obviously, this is a great deal so the place gets packed, and it’s important to go knowing that you’re going to have to wait a LONG time for a table. Embrace this though- have some chips and a few drinks in the bar area (the tacos taste even better after a few margaritas.) If the bar is too crowded, the little secret is to put your name at Don Antonio’s and then head across the street to Liquid Kitty for a few cheap drinks. If you’re still standing by the time your table is ready, you have to order the potato tacos. WHAT? I know it sounds weird, but they are incredible (and vegetarian). To sum up: Go here for a good time with friends, cheap food and good drinks. Do NOT go here expecting great and quick service.

I've been going to Don Antonio's on and off for about four years now. The food is decent Tex Mex and overpriced compared to many small mom and pop shops that are just as good. I usually go when I'm craving their fajitas which are excellent. Service is a crap shoot and depends on who you get as your waiter. I'm giving the restaurant one star based on my most recent visit.
I went on a Thursday night and was told that I would be seated in 20 minutes by this host with a pony tail....I'm guessing he's the owner. After twenty minutes, I checked in and was told that I would be called next. I was never called over the speaker phone and checked again. The host said that he called my name, but I was literally ten feet away from him and didn't hear a thing. This happens four more times!!! While this is happening, the host is getting hammered on vodka tonics as he's working. I only managed to get seating after literally pulling a group of waiters aside and complaining, while the apparently drunk host was just standing there doing nothing. Other people had this problem as well, but not as bad as my case. Don Antonio's has definitely lost a longtime customer here, along with any one in my network I can share this experience with. Their food isn't that good to be treating their patrons like this.

I am a Santa Monica native, so Don Antonio's is not only a good choice because it's semi-close, but it's also reasonably priced and has good food! They used to have cheaper combo plates and dishes, but their prices are still very reasonable and fair for the amount of food they give you! Every time I go, I never need to order more than 2 dishes for my boyfriend and I (and we are not light eaters). The chimichangas are my favorite, and the burrito especial is also good. The nachos are huge! (it is a meal and then some-with either chicken or ground beef, both are good choices). Ordering just the nachos, and the burrito is WAY ENOUGH for 2 people. We took almost half of each dish home last time! Anyways, I have never tried their drinks at the bar or had their tacos, but the ambience is nice (a bit dark) but it's kind of romantic almost. Don Antonio's is definitely my go-to place whenever I am choosing to dine out for Mexican!!

I have been here for lunch many times and the food is good and they get you in and out quickly. No doubt it is dark and you do have to come in and wait in the service area but for lunch it was no worry. Never had a bad meal or a screwup.

If you want a bad experience from the moment you walk in to a restaurant, try Don Antonio's.
The host desk is adjacent to the bar and the kitchen; this forces you and your party to stand in the middle of service. No one takes your name, rather you write your own name and number of diners on one of many notepads. This leads you to never know where you are in place for dining. Moving to the bar leads to more disappointment as the bartenders seem to readily ignore anyone who isn't seated at the bar or isn't a waiter. Once we did get a margarita it was good. Flavorful with fresh lime and decent tequila.
We noticed that people who came in after us were seated before us so we decided that we needed to take seating into our own hands and remind the ""host"" that we had been waiting for a table. We were immediately taken to the patio and seated. We reviewed the menu and found two items that excited us along with a standard of Queso Fundido. The Queso came and was delicious. It was served with pre-made flour tortillas which proved to be disappointing compared to other Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood that make their own fresh. Our table had not been set properly and we were missing knives which are more than necessary to eat Queso. We asked for the knives twice and it took the serving staff nearly five minutes to return with cutlery.
When our entrees arrived we were still eating the Queso and this left no room on the table. I made physical note of this to our server which caused him to begin yelling at his colleagues to clear our table. This is a basic restaurant service standard and truly proved how bad the service had been since we entered.
I didn't think anything could get worse, but it did. My entree, a pork tostada and side of rice was cold. I understand that the lettuce and sour cream must be served cold, but the pork was a temperature that would never pass health inspection. The side of rice was even colder.
I spoke to the manager who offered to remake the dish; which I declined. He excused himself to deliver another table then came back to talk to me. The fact that he walked away while we were discussing our issue truly told me that service is not that important at Don Antonio's. I told the manager that I would pay for the food and drinks that we had eaten and to please close out and bring our check. After waiting for more than three minutes, we walked out of the restaurant without getting our check. The manager did wish us a ""good evening"" as we left.
I'd like to say the food was good but the service is horrible and never provided us the opportunity to eat.

We loved everything, the chips and salsa, burritos, delicious beef tacos... my favorite was shrimp soup, it had vegetables, marinaded sour carrots, and plenty of large shrimp.
Except on one occasion I found a fly in my soup and the manager told us that it was a normal thing as there were flies in the kitchen flying around so one might have naturally gotten into my soup. (this is almost verbatim)
It's been 7 years that we haven't been back. But I really loved that soup. I hope they got a new management that makes sure that there are no flies in the kitchen.

Jarritosbreath obviously busses tables for the place on Sunset...his ex-girlfriend likes to take her dates to Don Antonio's - and why wouldn't she??? THis place is FANTASTIC! Ambiance is GREAT, food is fast and tasty, you can't go wrong. I have NEVER had a bad experience in the past 12 years of going on a semi-regular basis. The salsa and guacamole is second to none.

I love Don Antonio's Enchiladas Verdes but it's really just an excuse to eat more chips! The homemade chips come out hot, flaky and delicious every time -- fresh spicy hot salsa also is great. Staff is friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is lively, good for groups but also fun for a date night. Kid-friendly. Valet paring is only $1.50!

Don Antonio?s has replaced El Chollo as my favorite Mexican restaurant on the Westside. Their margaritas are so flavorful without being too thick, and the chicken in their burritos is moist and cooked to perfection. The cozy booths, fish tanks and lack of sunlight give the restaurant a very romantic feel. And the service has always been timely. I absolutely love eating here.

Every wed you have to go here to get the best dollar tacos around. The chicken tacos are the best of the 5 flavors offered and beers are a little cheaper then too. And to top it off, the chips are AMAZING!! They make them fresh and they are brought warm to your table and are the best thing in the world!! You will eat at least a basket of these chips by yourself. The cheese and onion enchiladas are also delicious. For dessert you HAVE TO TRY the Xango pronounced Chango. Won over my mom and we will get it every time now. A pastry dessert stuffed with a sweet filling served with caramel and ice cream...mmmmmmmmm

Okay, so here's the deal. I always use Citysearch to check out restaurants, but never to write any reviews. The time has come. Born and raised in LA, I pride myself in finding some of the best Mexican spots the city has to offer. I had never been to this place even though I heard it was good from different people and also the fact that it was that dork from MTV's the Hills claim to fame, I decided to check it out last night with my gf. I'm going to cut to the chase for the sake of reading this...this place BL*WS! The vibe inside is barely cool, and any mexican authenticity is ruined by the loud speaker they use to call out names on the list for tables. The place was freezing to the point that my girl had to wear a winter coat the whole time we were eating. When we sat, we ordered nachos that we saw pass by and looked good (from the appetizer menu), 2 crispy tacos, and my girl ordered a carne asada soft taco. The table of 4 next to us that sat 10 minutes after us and ordered at the same time, got there whole meal before we got the nachos. 10 minutes later he showed up with the nachos and our dinners at the same time...i know its not the biggest deal, but when you're hungry it does p*ss you off. I'll summarize the whole meal in one word. TASTELESS!! Everything was so bland, needed salt, and had seriously had no taste! I've made better nachos at home with Tostitos. Weird!! The rice tasted straight out of a can, the beans reheated from who knows when, and seriously...who puts orange wedges in nachos!?!? I wasn't expecting the service to be anything spectacular so I won't really comment. NOW LISTEN TO ME...IF YOU WANT SOME OF THE BEST MEXICAN THE CITY HAS TO OFFER, GO TO ""EL COMPADRES"" ON SUNSET. BL*WS THIS PLACE OUT OF THE WATER!! MUCH COOLER INSIDE, HAS LIVE MARIACHIS, WAY BETTER DRINKS, AND OF COURSE THE FOOD IS RIDICULOUS. I HOPE YOU LISTEN TO THIS FOR THE SAKE OF WASTING A DINNER ON THIS PLACE. GO TO EL COMPADRES, BUT DON'T TAKE MY TABLE!!! IT GETS PACKED! TAQUITOS.
