Two of us ordered spinach salads today, and we were very surprised at how small they were and how little there was in the salads except spinach. There was hardly any taste to the dressing--I could have done better at home myself, and I'm not all that great of a cook. And for an entree sized salad, at least that's what I understood it to be, it was really, really small. Our portions were really dinner sized, in my opinion, and not at all worthy of the $13 or $14 cost. I've had a few ""so so"" meals at Cheebo, and this one was the most forgetable and most mediocre. There are better places to eat for the same money.

Cheebo is disgusting! I went there on a recommendation from a friend. I ordered the cheebo chop salad. I ate half of the salad when, to my horror, I discovered some curly hairs in my salad! The manager gave me some flimsy excuse and gave me the meal for free. However, I had lost my appetite. I wouldn't eat there again if my life depended on it.

I was pretty excited to go to this restaurant based on a review I had read over a year before. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, and the service was lethargic. My party ordered a variety of dishes - smoked salmon pizza, cheebread, soup, and a few sandwhiches. Nothing was sorely disappointing, but nothing stood out, either. It was the type of meal that will be forgotten within the month. In fact, I think I've had more satisfying meals at Pizza Hut. But this was not the most disappointing part - service from our waitress was almost nonexistent. The supporting waitstaff/busboys were fantastic - they refilled our water, cleared plates, etc., but our waitress was just awful. She took about 15 minutes to acknowledge our table when we arrived and then another 20 minutes to take our order - she never even passed by our table in between for us to flag her down. Then, as she took our order she was of no help - my friend asked her about the soup size - whether she thought it could be a full meal or more of an appetizer. Her response? ""It's soup."" She was such a deadbeat - very lethargic. There is nonintrusive service and then there is service where you feel like you are a bother to ask for anything. We received the latter. After we finally received our food (another 25 minutes - and note that there were two other couples in the whole restaurant), she never came back to check on us once. In fact, we never saw her again until she brought us the bill.

While I give Cheebo props for its inspired, offbeat (and orange) decor, not much else was worth revisiting here. They severly undercooked one friend's meal, which messed things up a bit. Also, when I went to use the restroom (which is right next to the kitchen) I saw two employees scarfing food, one from a takeout box, the other from what appeared to be a serving plate. Hurl. It made me nauseous. And jealous (Imagine that combo) b/c I hadn't eaten yet. When the food did come, everyone thought it was just okay and my steak and mash was lukewarm. Blech.
To be fair, the waitress was competent and charming. And I didn't try the Italian offerings... Nonetheless, not going back if I can help it.

It's nice that more people don't know about this place. Breakfasts are scrumptious, and unlike the insanely-busy-all-the-time Griddle Cafe nearby, you don't have to fight for your server's attention.

cheebo is just a few blocks away from my place, and i have never had a bad meal there. bossa nova is nearby and good for those greasy days that i want huge portions, but cheebo is what i crave when i want excellent healthy food for a great price. the waitstaff is incredibly friendly and even when they're mobbed, they maintain their cheer and remember the regulars. all of their pastas are to die for.

I'm a frequent visitor to Los Angeles and my trips always include delicious meals at Cheebo. My favorite lunch is the Turkeywich which has heaps of turkey along with bacon, tomato and avocado. All the sandwiches are enormous, so I often have to take the 2nd half away with me to eat later in the day.
When I think I ought to be eating more vegetables, I order the veg chop salad which has goodies in it like asparagus and fennel. I also often go for their tasty veg soups. Even the chicken soup has lots of veg in it.
If I'm in the area at dinner time, I stop by for a glass of wine at the bar and then probably a mushroom or sausage and fennel pizza (perfect thin crust) or a pasta (the simple spaghetti pomodoro is nicely seasoned). The fish special often looks great, although I've never had it because I want to have my pizza.
I always feel comfortable at Cheebo. My home away from home.

I luv this place! I can't tell you how many times a week I think about their pizza. If it wasn't for the fact that I watch my carbohydrate intake I could easily eat their pizza every night of the week. If I have no one to dine with and I have a whole pizza to myself I take the leftovers home and the next day it's even better. Cheebo salads are also primo! Last time I had a huge piece of grilled salmon on top of leafy greens......the fish was cooked to perfection! Ohh and I should also mention that I have seen numerous star there. It's a very casual yet hip and trendy spot - great atmosphere and a good selection of beer.

Sure, you can go to CPK -- but for a real slice of SoCal casual cuisine, go to Cheebo. The pizzas, with their toothsome, rustic crusts and flavorful topping combos (homemade sausage/fennel, wild mushroom and clam/jalapeno are my personal faves) are alone worth the trip (or the trip to the takeout counter to take it home with you). Hand tossed and stretched lengthwise, these long-ish (not roundish) pizzas are always popular picks. The chop salad is killer, and well... i've never gotten around to trying the sandwiches, because I'm always stuck on my faves -- but I'm sure they must be great. Cheebo's creed is to use organic (whenever possible) ingredients, but they do it without being snobby or too earthy-crunchy about it. Meat dishes happily co-exist with vegetarian dishes, so bring your whole crew -- everyone will find something that they want to eat. For me, Cheebo is the happy medium of dining out in LA: not too fancy, not too grungy, high-quality, tasty food for a good price, casual/hip decor without the snobby staff or intolerable wait. It's my go-to spot whenever I want to treat myself (or my out-of-town guests) to something nicer than an In 'N Out, but don't want to go to a McMacaroniGrill or a nosebleed pricey place. I only wish there was one in the Valley or in Silverlake.

Nothing like it in the neighborhood - They have a new Chef now and the food has never been better. Had a new drink called ""pearls on ice"" - a black and blueberry ""soju"" drink - never had a buzz like that before! All in all still the same great vibe....worth a check-out if you haven't already.
Are people fooled by the orange walls into thinking the food and service are good? Some sort of sensory overload?
The food is not so hot. The service is even worse. Avoid avoid avoid. There's much better in LA. There's much better within the same block!
Feel like ordering an $11 breakfast burrito and getting treated like crud?
The food is bland and incredibly overpriced and the servers have severe attitude. Skip this place. These are the kinds of ""hipster"" restaurants and people that give LA a bad name.

i eat at cheebo ALL the time. it's one of my go-to lunch/dinner spots. so i was really confused when i read all of these negative reviews! yes, the service isn't top-notch, but no one has ever been rude to us. my bf and i were there one night and we waited for the valet guy for 10 minutes! the manager came out and appologized profusely before offering us some free drinks. i thought that was very appropriate. and i love the food! i swear they sprinkle pixie dust on their steak. i've also had a few pastas, salads, sandwiches and pizzas...and they've all been delicious! i've never had a bad meal at cheebo. so, before you write it off, maybe give it a second glance.

I really love this place. The atmosphere is great inside. You feel like you're eating outdoors. The art on the walls is interesting and the bright orange and yellows inside the restaurant keep the mood light and fun. The last time I went, I had the Cheebo chop salad which was wonderful. My boyfriend had the ribs with sweet potatoes. The food is superb for the small price you pay. Overall, this place is very classy and charming without being overly expensive. I definitely recommend it.

Cheebo is a few step down from the crown jewel (Le Petit Four level and up) restaurants on Sunset. It doesn't have the elegant design or breadth of menu items, but it's also not terrible. If you're looking to save a few bucks and aren't too much of a critic (who isn't though?), you'll probably enjoy it. Just don't expect your server to go out of his/her way to make your night.

great atmosphere with friendly service.... and as all the reviews say, the food was excellent. true, if i was at a stuffy, high end restaurant, i would have expected more proffessional service, but concidering the relaxed atmosphere, the service was in context with the room. more importantly, the food was great and arrived fast.

Why is it when someone has a bad expierience they tell the world when its good they tell only their mother??? I saw a few negative reviews for this place but went anyway. I went with two italians and three food snobs and EVERYONE was delighted. The pastas were original (big portions might want to share) the salads tasty and the culotte was perfect. Need to work on the desserts, and it can get alittle loud for a large table. Really fun atmosphere and fantastic decor. This place is a real find. I also went one morning for a late breakfast and have decided it's my new favorite. Cheebo rocks.

Service is probably the worst I've seen anywhere...the manager argued with us over a completely forgivable, fairly common mishap, turning the whole thing into a fiasco instead of just fixing the problem and moving on. We were treated with the such a negative attitude, it seemed as though everything is a problem and they couldn't be bothered. The food is good but not worth the faults of their service by any means. It is a little over priced for some things...I centainly wouldn't feature this place as a ""cheap eats"" or somewhere where customer service matters

Love the pizza here. It is a bit pricey though. But worth a try. I had the sausage specialty.
The man who took my order was friendly (he asked me if I was in the Air Force because of my haircut).

If you want to actually get the meal that you order, and pay a lot for, at Cheebo, be prepared to:
a) physically grab a server to get attention and a menu
b) physically grab a busboy to get attention and silverware
c) send your order back 3 times to get a simple cheese substitution and dressing right on your salad.
d) get practically laughed at by the manager when bringing the terrible service and lack of proper order to his attention.
e) get told that you are WRONG about your salad being incorrect by the manager.
The food and uberhip atmosphere are so NOT worth the struggle. The only way to enjoy the food here, which is pretty good considering, is to TAKE IT OUT. Even then, I'm not sure it's worth it. There are a lot of good restaurants in this town that actually PROVIDE service. Go there.
