Individual experiences will vary. Where is Healing Touch Used? Healing Touch is used in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, long term care facilities, private practices, hospices, and spas. Janet Mentgen, RN, founded Healing Touch in 1989 as a continuing education program for nurses, massage therapist, other health care professionals, and lay persons. Many hospitals are incorporating HT to calm and prepare patients for surgery, chemotherapy, and other anxiety-provoking procedures. Studies have suggested that HT may decrease wound healing time and shorten the length of hospital stays. Other common indications for HT include chronic pain, headaches including migraines, generalized anxiety, and sleep disturbances. HT therapy is said to facilitate a spiritual connection and often helps clients with emotional distress. Today, Healing Touch has spread world wide and is taught in universities, medical and nursing schools, and other settings internationally.
