Michael Chill - Dog Trainer

Michael Chill is a gem. In a round about way, I found the best dog trainer with whom I have ever worked. Although I consider myself somewhat "dog savvy," the puppy who came into my life, and joined our family, was a challenge beyond what I experienced with previous four footed family members. Trainers #1, #2, and #3 proved to be disappointments. Their training techniques (using reward treats or pinch collars) were neither successful nor comfortable for us or the puppy. A neighbor, who owned a large, well trained dog watched me struggle ... and returned with a name and phone number, Michael Chill - Animal Services. She assured me that Michael could provide what we needed. She was correct!

I called his office and a person answered the phone. Yes, a real person! Later that day Michael called back. (I learned that returning calls himself, is not unusual, but the norm.) We spoke about this independent and strong spirited, yet loving puppy; unlike the first three trainers we "burned" through, he was intrigued. I learned Michael did not use prong collars, clickers or food. I felt comfortable with his training beliefs. He suggested beginning with a private lesson and consultation; we were in agreement. Following his evaluation a combination of private sessions as well as group lessons became the plan. Ultimately, the "problem" was not quite what I imagined; this puppy was so smart and so independent it took someone who really "got" him to teach me how to work with him. It took work on my part and it wasn't magic ... but the transformation was magical.

Michael's goal is the same for every client: to build a foundation for the best relationship possible between your dog and you and your family. He does not favor any breed or mix or size or age. If it has four legs and is a dog; he reaches the owner and the dog. If something doesn't work, he always has another solution and if necessary, another. He understands how dogs think.

He returns calls. After completing training, you are always welcome to call with a question. After a significant passage of time, he may not remember your name; but without a doubt, he will remember your dog!

Most importantly, Michael does not train by "breaking" the dog the way people reference "breaking" a horse. He allows the dog to keep his spirit. The dog responds to the owner out of a wish to please, not out of fear ...

Yes, he is a gem, unlike any other.
