The board passes recommendations in the selection of textbooks and appointment of employees. It governs Lakota Local Schools, which administers several elementary, middle and high schools. Lakota Local Schools is one of the largest school districts in Ohio. The district enrolls more than 18,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Its schools provide various athletic opportunities, such as football, volleyball, golf, tennis, cross-country and cheerleading.
