Overcharged me $150 for brake line replacement. I confirmed this with other mechanics in lexington. Although they are refunding me $134 I am still not happy they ripped me off. I get conformation of my refund tomorrow, until then I won't believe it till I see it. They are not BBB acredited!!!!

Buyer beware - Overcharging

What happened: My car's thermostat housing went bad and was leaking very badly. I brought it in without an appointment because I had noticed my car was overheating while I was driving around so I brought it to the closest repair shop which happened to be Ken Towery's. The employees quickly verified that the thermostat was bad and needed to be replaced.

Later on I get a call from Ken Towery's saying that the repair would cost $650. I was shocked.. By then I had already done my research and determined the parts would cost about $100. So i figured about $200 would be fair.

Instead the employees I talked to INSISTED that along with the thermostat housing, the head gasket had to be replaced. Not only did they say that it had to be removed in order to replace the thermostat housing (which is completely absurd, only the throttle body needed to be removed), they had to put a new one on instead of reusing the old one, which, of course, brings the total up to $650 due to the labor required to replace the head gasket and the new part itself.

Now... I am a 20-year-old college student that doesn't know a lot about cars. I am assuming that they thought I would believe whatever they told me and pay whatever ridiculously overpriced bill they threw at me.

What I did next: I got my dad's truck and trailer and towed my car to a local car shop (owned by the most honest mechanic I have ever met) at home. I dropped it off Sunday night and it was ready tuesday morning for a grand total of... $150 out the door.

Moral of the story: Pay attention to what they say; do some research. It is THEIR JOB to overcharge wherever possible, even if the repairs are irrelevant to the problem. So before letting them even touch your vehicle, do some research and it might save you $500 like it did me.
