DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They stood us up and we had no tour.

I am beyond disappointed and upset at how our reservation was handled for 4:30 on Friday, August 9th. I contacted them weeks ago via email for information and called multiple times this past week to make a reservation. We called on Wednesday and was never called back until Thursday after I had to emailed her about it. My husband even called as late as noon on Friday, August 9th to add another adult to our reservation for 4:30 THE SAME DAY and they said it was no problem. Our credit card was charged immediately for all 3 adults and 2 kids before we even got there. He spoke to Peggy at noon and she "remembered" us enough to charge our credit card, but she "forgot" us 4 hours later on the same day?!? We drove an hour from the Avon area and arrived 15 minutes early to wait to meet them. We gave them the benefit of the doubt when they were not there still at 4:45...figuring that maybe the prior tour ran a little late. We tried calling 3 times between 4:45 and 5:00 with no answer. My husband finally got through at 5:10 to be told they would "look for a driver and call us back". We were called back and told that "no driver was available and she couldn't get a hold of them". Really?!? We drove an hour to get there, waited 45 minutes for them to show up and there was "no driver available"? This is entirely unacceptable. When a business makes a reservation, it is THEIR JOB to follow through on that reservation....even if it had to be Peggy herself to come and pick us up for the tour. This reservation was made in advance...it was not our fault that they "forgot" about us. We wasted over 3 hours on our last day of vacation between the drive time there and back and waiting for them to not show up. I had 2 children with me...ages 8 and 10. This was our first trip to Colorado and with all of our planning before leaving for the trip, this was THE ONLY thing they had their hearts set on doing. We set the money aside in order to make this a possibility for them. By the time we heard back from them, EVERYTHING in Leadville to try to do was closed. The mines, the museum, etc. I had 2 little kids in my back seat crying for an hour. Thanks, Winterhawk, for ending our trip on such a "high" note and taking away the one thing they were most looking forward to. I sure hope that this provided a valuable lesson to them as to what NOT to do with a customer. I truly can't believe the disregard that we were treated with. I don't want any other customers to be treated in the same manner on their vacation. Please be wary to use this company.There are plenty of other dogsled companies in the area.
