Established in 1938, Catholic Charities is a nonprofit organization that offers a range of social welfare services. The organization operates more than 25 offices and programs to serve over 10 counties within the Diocese of Harrisburg. Its programs focus on counseling, long-term substance abuse treatment, homeless family shelter, and personal and maternity care. Catholic Charities also provides employment, family-based mental health, and immigration and refugee services. The organization offers English as a Second Language, refugee resettlement, and adoption and foster care programs. In addition, it operates several residential treatment facilities that include Lourdeshouse, Hope House, Paradise School and Evergreen House. Catholic Charities legal services program provides assistance with issues related to work authorization, naturalization applications, and family and work visas. The organization serves children, youths, married couples, families and senior citizens. Additionally, it organizes fundraising events, music concerts and training workshops.
