In the Spring of 2009, I hired Mockingbird Hill to spray for the winter moth caterpillars that were eating my maple trees. All went well, the caterpillars were gone, and life was good. They had suggested an application of BT, which I approved. They arrived, sprayed the trees, and the results were good!



In the Spring of 2010, I began to see leaf damage. I called Mockingbird Hill again, and discussed my problem. I told them that I did not want to use heavy pesticides, and wished to arrange for another application of BT. I was assured that that was what they would do. Several days later, I arrived home after work, and there was a paper stuffed inside my screen door. They had sprayed Sevin.



I was never notified that they would be spraying Sevin. Not even a phone call.



Last year, after the Sevin application, the dragonflies, praying Mantis, butterflies, and honey bees were not seen in our garden. Even the turtles in the small vernal pool were not visible.



I did not pay my $437.00 bill until today... even though I hate paying good money for something that I did not get!



They began to send invoices with veiled threats about additional costs, if I did not pay immediately. I just did not wish to spend any more money to hire a lawyer to fight this. So we move on.



I would suggest that if you deal with Mockingbird Hill, that you

1. Get a written contract.

2. Require an actual date of application.

3. Read the MSDS sheets (available online) about any product you are using, and make a decision before the application occurs.



I do not think that they are bad people, I think they got sloppy, and I paid the price.
