What is your patient care philosophy? We work togetherwith our patients and both need to be heading in the same direction for patients to get better. Without the combined effort, we may not succeed. What would you like people to know about you as a physician?I will draw from life experiences and previous work as an athlete, certified athletic trainer and personal trainer to work toward the best outcomes. Why did you decide to become a physician?I felt that I had so much to offer from sports, healthcare and life experience to help people through their injuries and potentially one of their toughest times in life. What do you enjoy most about working with patients?I enjoy taking someone from inability to ability by guiding their recovery. When did you know you wanted to be a doctor? This is a tough question due to the circuitous route I traveled to become a physician. I always knew I wanted to be in healthcare and particularly sports medicine, but I did not come from a family of physicians or means. I was the first to go to college from my family and had quite a bit of fear about medical school. I got over this fear with high levels of academic performance and work/life experience. How does your work improve lives? My work provides patients with improved function and mobility, allowing people the ability to return to life, sporting and work activities. What else would you like to share with our readers?I grew up in a working-class family. I can understand the difficulties due to financial pressures and the work and life issues that accompany those strains. What are some interesting facts about you?• Inducted into the Berkshire High School Athletic Hall of Fame in Burton, Ohio as a three sport athlete (Football, Basketball, Track) highlighted by 1st Team All Ohio Football team honors and selection to play in the Ohio North-South All Star Football Game.• Football All-American at Division II, Mercyhurst College. • Originally from a small town in Ohio, but I have lived in Pennsylvania, New York and Florida.• Team physician for multiple high schools throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Central Florida.• Team physician for Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Flyers; St. Joseph’s University; and Villanova University. • Athletic Training experience at high schools and college. • I have worked many MMA, boxing and kickboxing fights as a ringside and cageside physician in Florida. What childhood memory do you have about visiting the doctor?I recall the level of respect shown to my family and me, even when things were not going well.
