Alejandro Caudillo (a.k.a., Alex) d.b.a., Caudillo's Home Improvement. One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) disappeared from a well-hidden place during the contractors exclusive access and presence. Recommendation: Keep a watchful eye on their every move. Do not trust Alejandro Caudillo (a.k.a., Alex) d.b.a., Caudillo's Home Improvement to unsupervised work. After we discovered the loss, Alejandro (Alex) Caudillo agreed to meet us halfway on the loss and provided us with a $500 check. The following morning, he told us his account was short and asked that we hold off on cashing it for a couple days. A couple days later we discovered he lied and cancelled the check. We confronted him and he said he believes his employee (Juan) over his us, his customers. Homeowners beware! Looking for recourse, we discovered he is apparently not licensed. We immediately filed a complaint with the Statewide Investigative Fraud Team (SWIFT) -- California Contractor's Board. We were negligent in hiring a contractor based on a referral without performing a license check. Secondly, we should not have allowed them to work unsupervised. Tertiary, we should have made sure all valuables were locked in the safe.
