Deciding to use Barkingham Palace was one of the best decisions I ever made for my dogs. Dogs have the freedom to socialize with other dogs, run freely, and do all the things that dogs do. They aren't locked up in a small cage. Would you want to be locked up in small cage all day? Not me! And I don't want that for my dogs, either. They get plenty of good food, exercise, and dog-socializing at Barkingham Palace. I know whenever I drop off my two dogs at Barkingham that they are being cared for by someone who sincerely cares and understands how to properly care for them in every way possible. If I was a dog, this is where I'd want to go.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR DOG TO BARKINGHAM PALACE
THIS WAS NO ACCIDENT!!!
On the morning of November 14, 2016, I received a phone call from Patrice telling me my dog Mitzy was dead. I ask what happened and she said I don’t know.
I rushed to Barkingham Palace to find my precious Mitzy girl wrapped in a towel in Patrice’s house. I ask again what happened to her, she said all I can find is this gash in her neck. I ask what dog did this and she couldn’t tell me because she was not at home when it happened.
She had gone to Sam’s shopping and left all the dogs outside alone when she came back she found her in the yard dead.
Mitzy was a 12 pound boston terrier how could she defend herself against a big dog?
We had an autopsy done on Mitzy. She was mauled to death. Her throat was ripped open, her ribs were broken, her neck was broken, her stomach had been ripped out and her heart at been biten.
Please do not ignore this and don’t believe any of Patrice’s lies.
I will be glad to share the autopsy report with you.

I have been taking my two Shih Tzu's to Barkingham Palace for at least 5 years now. Patrice always treats my dogs as if they are her own. They are always so excited to be there and when I get ready to leave I am always given extra dog treats and on occasion dog toys. I could not think of a better place to take my dogs.

My dogs have been coming to Barkingham Palace for years and love it. One of the dogs is very small -- less than 10 pounds -- and she has a ball playing with Patrice and the other dogs. I've seen it on the online cameras. I can't believe that the comment by "Phero N" is accurate.

My dog Magnus loves going to see Patrice and her pack. If I ask him if he wants to go see her he gets really excited and runs to the door. Patrice feeds him high quality food and is always giving me extra treats to take home for him. She is kind and knowledgeable and loves what she does. If you ever have any doubts watch the doggie cam!

I have a small Boston terrier named Mitzy. She stays at Barkingham at least once a month and she stays for a week twice a year. Patrice is very loving to my baby girl. Mitzy is always so happy to get there, she can't wait to get out of my truck. I don't think the person who wrote that negative review ever had a dog that stayed there.

I would never leave my baby where she was not loved or cared for.

We have boarded our 30pd dog, Theo, at Barkingham Palace roughly 10 times since 2010, or maybe even more than that. Once he even stayed with Patrice for a fairly extended period of time - about 2 months I think - but most often he's been there for 1-2 weeks at a time. We have had nothing but positive experiences boarding Theo here, and I can't speak highly enough for Patrice herself or Barkingham Palace. As other reviewers have noted, this is a cage-free boarding facility, and I sought out Barkingham Palace initially because this was the case. With Patrice at the helm, Barkingham Palace exceeded my expectations, and, in fact, after years of dealing with boarding facilities in other cities, etc., Barkingham Palace "reigns" supreme in my mind. Theo always comes home completely exhausted from all the exercise (and having "re-gained his waist" - as Patrice says) but also relaxed; he always seems to have had a wonderful time - and I wouldn't say this for some of the other boarding experiences we've had, where he came home kind of high-strung and unhappy. Patrice is a pleasure to work with and attentive to the dogs; she loves them and has even adopted a number of dogs over the years when owners haven't returned for them, etc. I never have second thoughts about leaving Theo at Barkingham Palace; he is always so excited to stay with Patrice, and, each time, picking him up after his stay has only served to increase my trust in Patrice and confidence in Barkingham Palace as an excellent dog boarding facility. Really, dropping Theo off here always feels like leaving him with a big, happy and very energetic family, and as sad as I am to leave him, I always drive away with a smile on my face! I highly recommend boarding your dog here.

Well, I have to agree with Katie H. and disagree with Phero N (who calls himself George Shield on another review website????). First of all, I have never seen Patrice sit on a couch so the whole thing sounds pretty made up. We take our medium size dog to Patrice. He loves his time there. We watch the doggy cam sometimes and all we see is lots of doggies of all sizes having a grand time. I know that some of the dogs are Patrice's but it would be impossible to know which. She is so even handed with all the animals. My husband and I are very picky when it comes to boarding Pluto and this is by far the best facility we have ever used. Pluto is excited and happy to go there and he is a happy dog when we he comes home after his dog vacation. Highly recommended.

I personally completely disagree with the latest review about Ms. Patrice not being a "small dog person." I have boarded my dog there several times and have always witnessed dogs of all sizes (including very small) being treated well and fairly. The first time I visited I was amazed at how well so many different sizes/breeds of dogs got along. She is incredibly passionate about what she does and I consider my family lucky to have found a place like Barkingham Palace to babysit my dog while we are away or even just for a day or two to go for a "play-date." If you are questioning whether Barkingham is the correct place to leave your pet, I would strongly advise that you go visit and see what an awesome place it is... completely different than a traditional kennel or dog boarding facility.

I like the idea that the dogs here are kept "free-range." I trust that the owner Patrice does her best to keep them safe and fed well (even spoiled in this regard) and that the property is clean. But do consider the fact before boarding here that the majority of dogs are mid to large-sized, and Patrice does not have a helper for the 20 -30 dogs there ( several are her own). I believe that my smallish dog was in a fight at some point since she came back with a couple of deep scabs. But the overriding factor in not endorsing this business is that when I was out of town viewing the live feed video, I witnessed Patrice petting the larger dogs which came to her as she sat on the sofa -- but pulled in her hands when my dog approached Patrice for "her turn" at being petted. This made me and the kids awfully sad. The dogs circled her repeatedly in this fashion, and again and again my dog was ignored. We were incredulous. I can only surmise that Patrice is not a "small dog person."

Willie, our handsome 5 year old terrier mix, loves his home away from home at Barkingham Palace. He has stayed at Barkingham on numerous occasions, sometimes for a day, other times for 2 weeks, for the past 4 years. In my eyes, there is no other place that provides a unique safe space for him that allows him to be a dog, interact with other dogs and be cared for with integrity, awareness and kindness by Patrice, the owner of Barkingham. Sometimes, I drop him off just for a day to run around the grounds and needs to exercise. He comes home content, healthier and happier. I have always been tremendously confident in the care that Patrice, the owner, has given to Willie. In addition, I have seen her time and time again love all her canine guest with love, patience and integrity. I highly recommend Patrice and Barkingham as a wonderful place. I also love the idea that each new dog has to come to meet her pack to see if its a fit. It is an amazing space that has given our dog a richer life.

Wonderful 1st Experience!

I usually take my little girl Mimi (a mini-dachshund that is 1 and 1/2 years old and weighs 11 pounds) everywhere I go. I've had her since she was 7 weeks old and she is so special to me and a wonderful addition to my family! As she is my "only child" living at home now, I really don't like leaving her behind when I travel but occasionally I have to do so. Last month I boarded her for 3 days at her vet's office (where the dogs are kenneled) and when I picked her up, she was visibly stressed and anxious. I sensed that she did not have a very positive experience while I was gone. Her nose was rubbed raw as she was hoarding food in her crate and the vet tech said that some dogs will do this when kenneled so closely with other dogs. Additionally, she was losing a lot of her fur due to the stress. In a few days she was back to her normal self but then developed a slight case of "kennel cough" (as did several other dogs who were boarded at the same time at the vet's office).

Needless to say, I began looking for a boarding alternative for Mimi as I had to leave her again for 2 nights in July. After some online research, I found reviews for "Barkingham Palace" in Lacombe, LA and decided to contact the owner, Patrice so I could bring Mimi to her facility to see if she'd fit into the "pack".

I am so happy to say that Mimi did so well on her "interview" and she spent two days and nights at Barkingham Palace this past weekend. I was able to log onto the Internet and see Mimi and the pack online via the "doggy web cam" that is set up at Barkingham Palace. That was a real plus for me and as I suspected, she was in VERY good hands with Patrice and her pack. When I picked Mimi up, I could not believe how calm and relaxed she was and how she just hung out with all the dogs, large and small. Patrice said Mimi chose to sleep with her in her bed at night; right on top of her head like a little hat. Somehow, that doesn't surprise me!

I am so relieved that Mimi now has a place she can go to and feel "at home" on the occasions when she cannot travel with me! I even plan to take her there several times a month for "doggy daycare" so she can stay connected to Patrice and socialize with the pack. Thank you Patrice and the pack for taking such good care of my little Mimi Marie!!

I highly recommend Barkingham Palace as the place to board your dogs if you are looking for an alternative to your dog being kept in a kennel/crate/cage while he/she is away from home and family!

Best for Buddy!!!

We love Barkingham because Buddy does!!!

He gets to live and play with many dogs and not be penned in a cage/kennel while we are out of town. And all the dogs get along! It's amazing to watch them! Small and large breed just hang out together on the sofa, on the floor or in the yard.

The yard is very big, her fence is high and very sturdy. It is dug way into the ground, so there is no escape! The owner Patrice is very capable of handling the dogs and you can tell she is very devoted to them. She is very loving towards them. We will use Barkingham Palace from now on!

Answer to a prayer

Barkingham Palace certainly lives up to its name! The dogs are treated royally by Patrice ( owner, manager, dog's best friend, canine behavior expert, etc.) She treats them as if they were her own, handles each of their individual dietary and medication requirements, insures they get plenty of exercise, and gives them each tender, loving care. ( You may also get some TLC if she senses your own anxiety over leaving your pet.) You can always feel confident that your special doggie will be safe and secure, and in good, caring hands while you are away. I have already referred a couple of new dogs and they were just as impressed as me. Give it a try, you won't be sorry.

MY DOGS ARE A PART OF MY FAMILY AND IN THE PAST WHEN I HAD TO BOARD THEM I ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT THEM BEING IN A CAGE SURROUNDED BY OTHER DOGS BARKING ALL DAY.....IMAGINE MY DELIGHT WHEN I DISCOVERED BARKINGHAM PALACE....MY DOGS WERE ASSIMILATED INTO THE PACK AND WERE ALLOWED TO PLAY IN A FENCED IN YARD,,,,,ABUNDANT WITH FRESH WATER AND AN ASSORTMENT OF TOYS TO PLAY WITH......THEY WERE HAPPY CAMPERS.....PATRICE CARES SO MUCH ABOUT THE ANIMALS THAT STAY AT HER PLACE AND IS AN ARDENT DOG LOVER. I NO LONGER WORRY WHEN I HAVE TO LEAVE TOWN AND SEND THEM TO "CAMP"

Wonderful!

I honestly believe the hardest part of having a dog is who will care for the dog as good as you do while you are on vacation. Well, thanks to Patrice this problem has been solved for me. She is such a blessing. The main positive I think of is that she truly cares for each and every dog! The other significant positive is that the dogs are not in kennels - they are free to roam the yard and house and play. It really allows my family and I to enjoy our vacation knowing that our dog is well taken care of, having a great time playing with other dogs, happy, well fed and resting comfortably.

Barkingham

I have been using Barkingham to board my dogs over the last two years, and they always come back happier than when they left! Pick up and delivery, the dogs can go in and out whenever they want, and home-made food - doesn't get any better than that.
