The South Idaho Correctional Institution is a working facility that accommodates up to 720 male minimum-custody offenders in a dormitory setting. The institution assigns jobs to offenders who work inside and outside the facility compound. It includes road crews for the Idaho Transportation Department and firefighting crews for the US Forest Service. The South Idaho Correctional Institution also operates a final prerelease program for offenders. The institution is a part of the Idaho Department of Correction, which provides supervision services for probationers and parolees, as well as incarceration facilities for adult felons sentenced by courts. The department operates a central administrative office, more than five correctional institutions, community work centers, and over 20 parole district and satellite locations.
