We got a great dog at Young Williams. We have had him for two years now and he has exceeded our expectations for becoming a wonderful and loving part of our household. He was pictured on the website and a breed specific rescue volunteer called him to the attention of another rescue person who knew we were looking for a dog that could probably be appropriate for animal assisted therapy work. There were some difficulties with another family having "claimed" him before we arrived but they didn't show up by their deadline to pick him up. We sat in the lobby for an hour waiting for their deadline to expire. He was clean, healthy, and had a nice haircut. We would take a Young Williams dog again.

went on sat april 13th to the sutherland shelter, we waited almost 30 minutes before we were even asked to see a dog, the first one seemed to have a back leg issue,we were told to wait in the tiny little concrete room, where the floor had dog pee all over it, the next 2 dogs we looked at also peed on the floor and the help did not even attempt to clean it or give me a paper towel to clean it up. i then went into the puppy room, the smell was so bad i had to cover my nose, ALL the pens had SEVERAL piles of dog poop and the puppies were all in it, even most of the adult dog pens had dog poop in them. we were told that the kingston pike had several small dogs,at least this one was clean, the staff never even spoke to us and there was only one other person in the whole place. i have never written a review before but i have been in the "dog" profession for over 30 years and this was just a nasty mess to me.

They have animals for adoption on their website stating they are available NOW, come pick them up, and you think about it for a while and then you go up and pick one, and then they turn you down when you aren't a knoxville resident or some other bull when they should clearly state that on the animals blog and cages rules regarding the animal instead of writing all this other nonsense that I see on their website, more about the person holding the animal than the animal itself. People shouldn't get their hearts broken and have a bad experience. They are Knoxville county employees accepting donations. Some of the workers are very nice & respectful but of coarse there are bad ones too. I think they can do a better job. The higher paying people of the organization can be knocked down a notch or two. They should be honest from the beginning in regards of the type of family they allow to adopt a particular pet. PEOPLE ARE RECEPTIVE TO SUGGESTIONS, NOT BEING SPOKEN TO LIKE AFOOL.
